Additional performance - ESSD FlexPL volumes

If you use an ESSD FlexPL data volume with a capacity of 500 GiB or more, you can provision additional performance to meet your business needs. This topic explains how additional performance is billed and how to change billing methods, and provides billing examples.

Notes

The billing method for additional performance remains the same as for the ESSD FlexPL data volume, and cannot be configured separately. If you want to provision additional performance for a subscription data volume, this will be charged on a subscription basis. It is not possible to select pay-as-you-go as the billing method for additional performance.

Additional performance is billed separately. Once you have provisioned additional performance, the total volume cost is calculated as follows:

Total volume cost = System volume cost + Data volume cost + Additional performance cost

If you change the type of additional performance, the unit price will change accordingly and the change will take effect immediately.

Billing method

We offer both pay-as-you-go and subscription billing for additional volume performance. For more information, see EBS pricing details.

You can provision three types of additional volume performance: Balanced, IOPS and Throughput. The Balanced and IOPS types use the same billing formula. The details are as follows:

Throughput type	Pay-as-you-go	A post-paid model where you use resources first and pay later. The billing cycle is accurate to the second. Cost = Unit price × Throughput × Usage time	¥/Mbps/hour
Throughput type		Subscription	A pre-paid model where you pay first and use resources later. The subscription duration is measured in months. Cost = Unit price × Throughput × Subscription duration (measured in months).	¥/Mbps/month

Changing billing method

You can only change the billing method for additional performance when you change the billing method for the volume. You cannot change the billing method for additional performance alone. At present, it is only possible to change the billing method from pay-as-you-go to subscription. For more information, see Changing billing method from pay-as-you-go to subscription. Examples

The following table shows how additional performance costs are calculated under different billing methods. Assume you create an instance at 00:00:00 on March 31, 2023, purchase one system volume and one data volume, and provision the balanced type of additional performance. The usage period is one month. The volume specifications are as follows:

System volume: ESSD FlexPL volume with a capacity of 40 GiB.

Data volume: ESSD FlexPL volume with a capacity of 500 GiB.

Additional performance: Balanced type with 1000 IOPS.
