Add a domain
This document describes how to add your domain name to VolcanoEngine DNS.
Before configuring DNS resolution for your domain name, you need to add your domain name to the DNS service.
Steps
See the following steps to learn how to add a domain.
  1. On the Internet domain name management page, click Add domain name.
tip
To assign a project to a domain name, select a project from the dropdown menu at the top of the console before adding the domain name. After you complete the selection, the domain names you added will belong to the project you selected. If you do not select a project, the domain name will belong to default (the default project) by default.
See Access control and resource management to learn how to use project management's DNS resources.
  1. In the Add Domain dialog box, enter your domain and remark. You can add a root domain or a subdomain. The console will validate domain names.
  • To add a root domain, such as example.com:
  • If validation is successful, click Confirm to add the domain name.
  • If validation fails, you can move the mouse to the question mark in front of the error message. A floating window will automatically appear on the question mark. You can view possible reasons through the floating window.
tip
The rules of the root domain are as follows:
  • Supports English letters (a-z, A-Z, case-insensitive), digits (0-9), hyphen (-), and period (.).
  • Supports internationalized domain names (IDN), for example example.pyc and example.닷컴.
  • A hyphen (-) cannot be used at the beginning or end of a label.
  • Multiple English periods (.) must not appear consecutively.
  • The length of a label must not exceed 63 characters. In FQDN format, the total length of the domain name after Punycode encoding must not exceed 254 characters.
  • If you add a subdomain, such as abc.example.com, you can refer to Hosting subdomains to learn how to host subdomains in DNS.
Domains that have been added successfully are displayed in the domain list. If the domain name resolves correctly in DNS, the DNS status of the domain name will be displayed as Normal. If there is a problem with the resolution of the domain name, its DNS status will display a corresponding problem description. You can move the mouse over the problem description. A floating window will automatically be displayed above the problem description. You can view possible reasons through the floating window. You can also refer to FAQs for solutions.
tip
To edit tags for a domain, locate the domain you added in the domain list and edit its tags in the Tag column.
See Access control and resource management to learn how to use tags to manage DNS resources.
