Recovery by point in time
Cache for Redis supports restoring instances to a specified point in time through backup files. You can restore instance data to a new instance or the source instance according to service requirements.
Prerequisite
  • The instance type is the Primary-secondary instance. Single-node instances do not support backup and restore functionality. For details about the feature differences between the two instance types, refer to Feature differences.
Precautions

  • During data recovery (either to a new instance or to an original instance), do not perform any read or write operations on the instance. Otherwise, the recovery may fail or the recovered data may not meet expectations.
Billing instructions
Fees are incurred when restoring data to a new instance by point in time. For instance billing details, refer to Billing overview.
Restore to new instance (recommended)
  1. Log in to the Redis console.
  1. In the upper-left corner of the top menu bar, select the project and region to which the instance belongs.
  1. You can choose any of the following methods to access the Data recovery page.
  • Method 1
  1. On the Instances page, click the target instance.
  1. On the Summary page, click Backups tab.
  1. On the Backups tab, under the Basic backups sub-tab, click Data recovery.
  • Method 2
  1. In the left navigation bar, select NoSQL Database > Redis > Backups.
  1. On the Backups page, under the Basic backups tab, click Restore in the Actions column on the right side of the target backup.
tip
You can filter the target backup by the filter conditions in the upper-right corner of the list, as well as by fields such as Backup status, Instance status, and so on in the list. For more information about backup filter conditions or fields, refer to Viewing basic backups.
  1. On the Data recovery page, configure the following parameters.
  1. First configure the following Restore settings related parameters.
  •
    Parameter
    Description
    Restore to
Select Restore to new instance (Recommend).
    Restore method
    Select By point in time.
    tip
You need to enable Data flashback function before you can perform By point in time recovery operations. For specific procedures, refer to Modifying data flashback strategy.
    recovery point in time
Select the desired data and time.

  1. Configure the following parameters for the newly restored instance.
  •
  1. In the lower-right corner of the page, click Confirm order.
  1. Complete the subsequent steps according to the billing type you selected.
  •
Description
  • It takes about a few minutes to create an instance. You can view the newly created instance in the instance list.
  • You can go to Tasks to view the corresponding task of the newly created instance (the Task name/ID is CreateInstanceInner), and check the stage and progress details of the current task. For specific procedures, refer to Task management.
  • Before the Task status of a newly created instance enters Task success 100%, do not perform any read or write operations on the new instance. Otherwise, it may lead to instance recovery failure or data not meeting expectations after recovery.
Restore to original instance
tip
  • If the instance has been downgraded, make sure that the specifications of the single shard node and the number of shards of the recovered instance are greater than or equal to the node specification and the number of shards of the instance in the backup file, otherwise an error will be reported when recovering.
  • Before the restoration initiates, the system will perform a full backup by default.
  • Upon initiation of the restoration, the current instance will be cleared, and the instance cannot be read or written during the restoration process.
  • After enabling data flashback, restoring to the original instance results in automatic shut-off and restart of data flashback. After enabling data flashback again, recoverable point in times start from the time when the original instance is restored. For more information, refer to Setting data flashback.

    Restore to the selected point
Select the desired data and time.
Configuration at the backup point of the instance

Check and confirm the configuration information of the instance at the selected recovery time point, such as instance name/ID, availability zone, instance specification (including node specification, number of nodes in a single-shard, number of shards), whether the sharding cluster has been enabled, total capacity, billing method, database version, etc.
