Set public network analysis
Message Queue for Kafka's private network VPC domain name supports resolution to private IP addresses in public network environments. This topic describes manual operation steps to enable public network analysis.
Background information
Message Queue for Kafka provides various protocol endpoints for your connections. When accessing VPC-type private network endpoints, private domain names require resolution. However, by default, private domain names can only resolve private IP addresses within the VolcanoEngine private network environment. You can enable public resolution for the instance. Once enabled, it will successfully resolve private domain names to private IP addresses even in a public environment. Public network analysis suits non-production scenarios such as testing environments, for example, directly connecting to a Message Queue for Kafka instance in a test environment or individuals accessing private domain names from personal devices.
Note
  • The private domain name is resolved to a VolcanoEngine private IP address after being resolved through the public network. Your local environment needs to access the VolcanoEngine private network via VPN or other means. Otherwise, you will not be able to successfully access this private IP address.
  • Due to the complexity of public network environments, the accuracy and timeliness of domain name resolution can not be guaranteed. Therefore, the public DNS resolution function is only suitable for non-production environments. We sincerely recommend you to adopt the DNS Forward solution in the production environment by configuring Forward to VolcanoEngine DNS in the local DNS Server to achieve private network domain name parse.
Prerequisites
Kafka instance is successfully created, and the instance status is Running.
Enable public network analysis
  1. On the Instances page, click the target instance name.
  1. In the Instance details tab, in the Service access section, switch on Public network analysis.
  1. Confirm the domain names involved in this operation in the prompt, and then click OK.
Disable public network parse
tip
After turning off public network parse, private network domain names can not be resolved in the public network environment. However, you can continue to access private IP addresses resolved during the enabled period.
  1. On the Instances page, click the target instance name.
  1. In the Instance details tab, in the Service Access section, switch off Public network analysis.
  1. Confirm the domain names involved in this operation in the prompt, and then click OK.
