To better ensure service quality and reasonable resource allocation, the Public Remote Shuffle Service (RSS) provided by Volcengine E-MapReduce (EMR) Serverless will officially be commercialized starting from October 12, 2026. The detailed billing rules and Note are as follows:
1. Free basic quota (fixed capacity)
To meet your daily basic business needs, we will continue to provide a free fixed capacity:

• Basic free quota: At the tenant level, 50 TiB.
• High-spec bonus policy: For users who purchase exclusive queue resources greater than 1024 CU, for every additional 32 CU, the tenant will receive an extra 3 TiB of free fixed capacity.

• Example: If you purchase 2048 CU, your tenant-level free fixed capacity will be: 50 + (2048 - 1024) / 32 × 3 = 146 TiB.

2. Elastic on-demand billing (for usage exceeding the free quota)
To prevent your jobs from failing due to instantaneous peaks exceeding the fixed capacity, the system has by default set an elastic capacity of 900 TiB for you, and automatically created an elastic Shuffle capacity billing instance in the background for billing purposes.

• Billing rules: When your Remote Shuffle instantaneous peak exceeds the free fixed capacity but is below the elastic capacity limit, the excess portion (within the elastic capacity range) will be billed based on actual usage × duration.

• Billing example: If you purchase a 2048 CU exclusive queue in the Beijing region (enjoying 146 TiB free fixed capacity and default elastic capacity of 900 TiB), and the Shuffle capacity consumption peak remains at 200 TiB for 1 hour, then for that hour you need to pay the original price: (200 - 146) TiB × 1h × 2 RMB / TiB/h = 108 RMB.

3. Self-managed elastic capacity control
To help you better control costs, you can view the public RSS instance in the console and use "Change elastic configuration" to set the elastic capacity limit yourself, or set it to 0 TiB to disable elastic expansion.

4. Feature launch and recommendations

• Console feature update: Usage monitoring and elastic configuration adjustment functions for public RSS will be launched in the console soon. We recommend that you log in to the console to confirm and adjust the elastic capacity configuration before official commercialization (before October 12) to avoid unexpected charges.
• Architecture optimization recommendation: If you observe high RSS usage in monitoring or have extremely high requirements for stability, we strongly recommend purchasing a dedicated RSS service to achieve better isolation and performance assurance.
