Configuring public DNS resolution
The VPC domain name of a Message Queue for RocketMQ instance can be resolved to a private IP address over the Internet. This topic describes how to manually enable public DNS resolution.
Background information
Message Queue for RocketMQ provides access points via various protocols. When you access resources via a VPC access point, the private domain name must be resolved. By default, the private domain name can only be resolved to a private IP address within the Volcano Engine private network. You can enable the public DNS resolution feature for your instance. Once enabled, the private domain name can be resolved to a private IP address via the Internet. Public DNS resolution is ideal for non-production environments, such as test environments. For example, this feature is useful when you need to connect directly to a Message Queue for RocketMQ instance from a test environment or access a private domain name from a personal device.
Before using public DNS resolution, consider the following:
- After a private domain name is resolved via the Internet, the result is a Volcano Engine private IP address. Your local environment must be able to connect to the Volcano Engine private network via a VPN or other means. Otherwise, you will not be able to access the private IP address.
- Due to the complexity of public network environments, the accuracy and timeliness of DNS resolution cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, the public DNS resolution feature should only be used in non-production environments. For production environments, we strongly recommend using a DNS forwarding solution. To implement this solution, configure a forwarding rule on your local DNS server to forward queries to the Volcano Engine DNS server for private domain resolution.
Prerequisites
The instance is Running.
Enabling public DNS resolution
- On the Instance List page, click the instance you want to manage.
- On the Basic information tab, click Enable public network resolution under Service access.
- In the box that appears, verify the domain name and click OK.
Disabling public DNS resolution
tip
Disabling public DNS resolution means that the private domain name can no longer be resolved over the Internet. However, you can still access private IP addresses that were resolved while the feature was enabled.
- On the Instance List page, click the instance you want to manage.
- On the Basic information tab, click Disable public network resolution under Service access.
- In the box that appears, verify the domain name and click Confirm to disable.
