Manage backup strategies
Backup strategies automate backups by defining backup cycles, types, and retention rules. This document explains how to create and manage backup strategies on the CBR console, including key considerations.
Considerations
A single account supports up to 300 backup strategies per region.
Create a backup strategy
  1. Select a region from the top navigation bar.
  1. In the left navigation bar, select Backup Strategies.
  1. Click Create Strategy to open the Create Backup Strategy dialog.
  1. Configure policy parameters. The parameter descriptions are as follows:
  •
    Parameter item
    Is it mandatory
    Parameter description
    Basic information

    Policy name
    yes
Set the name of the backup policy. The naming rules are as follows:
    • Start with a letter, Chinese character, or underscore (_).
    • May contain letters, Chinese characters, numbers, underscores (_), and hyphens (-).
    • The length must be between 1 and 128 characters.
    Enable strategy
    No
Set whether to enable the strategy.
    • If selected: enable the strategy. The system will automatically back up the backup sources in the related backup plans according to the strategy configuration.
    • If not selected: disable the strategy.
    Backup rules

    Backup cycle
    Yes
    Set backup frequency.
    • Weekly
    • Repeat days: select the days of the week to run backup tasks; options include Monday to Sunday, multiple selections allowed.
    • Execution time: select the hour of the day to run backup tasks; options range from 00:00 to 23:00 on the hour.
    tip
    • For example, if you select Sunday as the repeat day and 23:00 as the execution time, the system will automatically run the backup task every Sunday at 23:00.
    • When selecting execution times, it is recommended to choose a single time. If selecting multiple times, ensure enough interval between them to complete each backup task.
    • Monthly
    • Repeat months: select the months to run backup tasks; options include January to December, multiple selections allowed.
    • Specified date: select the dates each month to run the backup task; multiple selections are supported.
    tip
For example, if you select the recurring months as January and June and the execution date as the 1st, the system will automatically run the backup tasks on January 1 and June 1.
    Backup time preview
    No
Automatically display the next 10 backup times according to the backup schedule.
    Backup type
    is
Select the backup type, either incremental backup or full backup.
    tip
This setting does not apply to ECS full machine backups. ECS full machine backups default to a full backup on the first run, and incremental backups thereafter.
    Backup retention rule

    Recovery point retention period
    Yes
Select and set the retention period for recovery points in the backup storage.
    • Automatically delete after retaining for XXX days: Set the retention period. Recovery points will be automatically deleted from the backup storage after the specified number of days.
    • Retain indefinitely: Recovery points will be retained indefinitely in the backup storage.
    tip
    • Recovery point retention time applies only to automatic backup recovery points generated by the backup policy and does not apply to manual backup recovery points from the same backup source.

  1. Click Confirm.

Operation steps
Query backup policy
Supports querying target backup policies in the backup policy list by backup policy ID or backup policy name.
  1. On the Backup Policy page, click the query condition dropdown list (located at the top right) and select a query condition.
  1. Enter the backup policy ID keyword or policy name keyword in the search box based on the selected query condition.
Enable/Disable backup policy
Supports manually enabling and disabling backup policies.
After disabling a policy, automatic backup tasks applied by that policy cannot be executed.
tip

  • Enabling or disabling the backup policy does not affect ongoing automatic backup tasks generated by it.
  • Disable policy
  1. On the Backup Policy page list, click Disable in the Actions column for the target policy.
  1. In the pop-up Disable Backup Policy dialog, click Confirm.
  • In the policy list, the Enable button appears in the Actions column for the disabled policy.

After editing the backup policy, the system will automatically back up the relevant sources in the backup plans according to the new policy configuration.
tip
  • Editing the backup policy does not affect ongoing automatic backup tasks generated by it.
  • Editing the backup policy does not affect existing recovery points. Existing recovery points will be retained or deleted according to the retention rules at the time of backup.
  1. In the list on the Backup Strategy page, click Edit in the Actions column for the target strategy.
  1. Set the backup strategy parameters in the pop-up panel.
  1. Click Confirm.
Delete backup policy
After deleting the backup policy, automatic backup tasks applied by the policy will no longer run.
tip
  • Deleting the backup policy does not affect existing recovery points. Existing recovery points will be retained or deleted according to the retention specifications at the time of backup.
  • Deleting a backup policy does not affect any ongoing automatic backup tasks generated by it.
  1. On the backup policy page list, click ... in the actions column of the target backup policy. > Delete.
