Overview of vePFS File System Backup
This document introduces the overview of vePFS file system backup features, usage constraints, notes, billing, and usage process information.
The vePFS backup feature is currently in invitation-only testing. Contact your account manager if you wish to try it.
vePFS file system backup is a high-efficiency, low-cost data protection solution for the vePFS file system provided by Volcano Engine Cloud Backup. It supports backing up 100MB/s/TiB, performance edition, intelligent computing edition, and VPC intelligent computing edition vePFS, compatible with NFS, SMB, and Fuse protocols. You do not need to install additional agent software or plugins on the backup source; simply configure it on the console to easily back up the file system. In cases of accidental deletion, ransomware attacks, or other issues on the vePFS file system, you can restore data from cloud backup to ensure data security.
Constraints and limitations
- vePFS file system backup depends on the vePFS DataFlow feature. Before backing up the vePFS file system, make sure of the following:
- Enable the vePFS DataFlow feature. This is a whitelist feature, so contact your account manager to request activation.
- The first time you use Cloud Backup, cross-service authorization is required to allow CBR to access other services and resources. Follow the prompts in the console to complete the cross-service authorization.
- The backup storage space for vePFS file system backups is a TOS bucket created by CBR in the same region. The bucket type is Standard.
- The backup storage space for vePFS file system backups is a TOS bucket. On the TOS side, storage capacity fees will be charged based on the backup data size. For details, see Storage capacity fees.
- During data backup and recovery, TOS API calls generate request fees. For details, see Request Fees.
Manual backup
Automatic backup
The manual backup steps are as follows:
- Enable the cloud backup service.
- The cloud backup service is currently in the invitation testing phase. You can contact your account manager to enable it for free.
- Create a vePFS backup source.
- Create a vePFS backup source in the Cloud Backup console. The backup source refers to the object being backed up, that is, the vePFS file system.
- Manually back up the backup source by creating a manual backup task. The system automatically generates the corresponding restore point.
- When data restoration is needed, restore the backup data to the specified path in the original file system using the restore point corresponding to the backup time.
The automatic backup process is as follows:
- Enable the Cloud Backup service.
- The Cloud Backup service is currently in the invitation testing phase. Contact your account manager to activate it for free.
- Create a vePFS backup source.
- Create a vePFS backup source in the cloud backup console. The backup source is the object to be backed up, which is the vePFS file system.
- Configure backup rules and data retention time in the backup policy.
- Configure the backup sources, backup policy, and backup storage space in the backup plan. After successfully creating the backup plan, the system will automatically back up the sources according to the backup rules in the backup policy.
- Each time a backup task is executed, the system generates a corresponding recovery point.
- When data needs to be restored, use the corresponding restore point according to the backup time to restore the backup data to the specified directory in the original file system.
