Billing items and prices (RDS for PostgreSQL)

This article introduces the billing items and prices of the RDS for PostgreSQL in Database Workshop (DBW).

Billing overview

Database audit (old version) billing items

The following billing items are involved in using the Database Workshop (DBW).

Function type	Billing method	Description
Database audit	None	Collection fee: Log collection is free during the promotion period. After the promotion period, fees will be charged based on the amount of logs collected. Storage fee: Each instance has 5 GiB of free storage space during the promotion period, and corresponding fees will be charged for exceeding this amount.

SQL insights and auditing billing items

tip

Database audit in SQL insights and auditing is the new version of the database audit function, which is different from the old version of database audit. The new version of database audit is billed by DBW and includes 4 billing items, namely log storage, log collection, index storage, and index traffic.

In SQL insights and auditing, if only database audit is enabled, only log storage, log collection, index storage, and index traffic related fees will be incurred; if database audit and full SQL insight are enabled at the same time, log storage, log collection, index storage, index traffic, and total aggregation analysis fees will be incurred.

Billing method	Billing items	Description
Pay-as-you-go	Log storage fee	The fee incurred by the log storage space occupied by the corresponding data volume after Database Workshop (DBW) collects the audit log. For details about the billing rules and prices for log storage fees, see SQL insights and auditing billing rules. Billed based on actual usage, with a billing cycle of 1 hour, and the fee will be automatically deducted from your account balance.
		Log collection fee	This is the write traffic fee incurred by the data volume collected when collecting audit logs. For detailed information about the billing rules and price of log collection fees, see SQL insights and auditing billing rules. Billed based on actual usage, with a billing cycle of 1 hour, and the fee will be automatically deducted from your account balance.
		Infrequent-access log storage usage fee	Audit logs that exceed the standard retention period will be automatically archived by DBW to infrequent-access storage, and the storage space occupied by the archived data will incur corresponding infrequent-access storage charges. Billed based on actual usage, with a billing cycle of 1 hour, and the fee will be automatically deducted from your account balance.
		Index storage fee	The fee incurred by the index data occupying storage space after the audit log is indexed. For detailed information about the billing rules and prices for index storage fees, see SQL insights and auditing billing rules. Billed based on actual usage, with a billing cycle of 1 hour, and the fee will be automatically deducted from your account balance.
		Index traffic fee	Traffic costs generated by index data volume when audit log is indexed or re-indexed. For detailed information about billing rules and prices for Index traffic fees, see SQL insights and auditing billing rules. Billed based on actual usage, with a billing cycle of 1 hour, and the fee will be automatically deducted from your account balance.
		Infrequent-access index storage usage fee	After an audit log is indexed, DBW automatically archives logs beyond the standard storage retention period to infrequent-access storage. The resulting index storage fees are billed at the infrequent-access storage rate. Billed based on actual usage, with a billing cycle of 1 hour, and the fee will be automatically deducted from your account balance.
		Total aggregation analysis fee	This fee is charged based on the log volume when using automatic aggregation analysis with SQL insight. For detailed information about the billing rules and prices for total aggregation analysis, see SQL insights and auditing billing rules. Billed based on actual usage, with a billing cycle of 1 hour.

Database audit (old) billing rules

Billing components	Description
Collection fee	Database Workshop （DBW） provides log collection fees for free.
Storage fee	The storage of audit logs is provided and billed by Torch Log Service. Currently, each instance has 5 GiB of free storage space, and log service will charge for excess. For details, refer to Billing rules for Log Service.

SQL insights and auditing billing rules

tip

When database audit is enabled, you will be charged for log storage fee, log collection fee, index storage fee, and index traffic. If you enable full SQL insight at the same time, a total aggregation analysis fee will be charged on top of the above fees.

Cost calculation formula

The following takes China (Guangzhou) as an example to introduce the total cost when the new database audit is enabled, and when the full SQL insight is not enabled and enabled:

Fees when full SQL insight is not enabled: Total fee = 0.0042 × Log storage × Usage time + 0.18 × Log collection volume + 0.0042 × Index storage × Usage time + 0.35 × Index traffic

Fees when full SQL insight is enabled: Total fee = 0.0042 × Log storage × Usage time + 0.18 × Log collection volume + 0.0042 × Index storage × Usage time + 0.35 × Index traffic + 0.08 × Total aggregation analysis volume
