Data insight

Overview

Data Insights is a file system data analysis feature provided by vePFS file storage. With Data Insights, you can analyze data attributes and access patterns within the file system in depth, and use these results to perform precise data management actions such as data migration, file deletion, and directory quota configuration, helping you optimize storage resource utilization and control costs.

Product features

Data Insights mainly provides three capabilities: analytics dashboard, customizable services, and the Insights Assistant.

Analytics dashboard

The analytics dashboard lets you view Data Insights results for the file system from global and multi-dimensional perspectives, helping you quickly understand information such as capacity, inode usage, directory distribution, and hot data. Through pages like Overview, Directory Tree, TOP Dashboard, Capacity Dashboard, and Hotspot Dashboard, you can directly view the data characteristics and trends within the file system, and investigate issues based on analysis results.

Customizable services

Customizable services allow you to filter and analyze file system data based on rules. You need to create a rule first, then create a policy or task based on the rule. Policies are used for periodic data insight executions, while tasks are for one-time insights. With custom services, you can filter target files by directory, file attributes, access behaviors, and other criteria to meet scenarios such as regular inspections, ad hoc analysis, and fine-grained management.

Insight Assistant

The Insight Assistant provides intelligent interaction for data insights, helping you better understand insight results and initiate follow-up actions efficiently. You can quickly start conversations using shortcut cards to summarize, further inquire, and diagnose based on analysis dashboards or insight results. For identified issues, the Insight Assistant can guide you to view relevant dashboards, configure observation rules, or perform follow-up actions. Use cases

You can process the file system based on insight results, such as migrating or deleting data Application scenarios for Data Insight include but are not limited to:

Use case	Description
Storage layout optimization	Check file system usage, analyze capacity growth trends, filter hot and cold data based on data access frequency, and optimize storage layout and resource allocation.
Access performance analysis	Analyze data from a performance perspective to identify access performance bottlenecks in the file system. For example, analyze attributes such as file access frequency and access time to find files that affect file system performance, and take appropriate optimization measures.
Storage cost management	Gain data insights from a cost perspective. Ensure agility for your business and achieve easy observability of the file system. Adjust storage strategies based on data insights—such as selecting the right file system specifications—to optimize cloud costs.
Visualization monitoring	Use data insights to visually monitor file system status, including storage capacity and usage. Identify potential issues quickly and respond in time.

Billing notes

Data Insight itself does not incur any fees. The visualization and analysis features for Data Insight results rely on Log Service. When you enable these features, charges are billed by Log Service. For details, see Log Service billing details.
