Creating file systems
This article explains how to prepare and create a file system in the vePFS console.
Prerequisites
Before creating a file system, make sure you have completed the following actions:
  1. You have registered a Volcano Engine account and completed identity verification. For more information, see Account registration and Real Name Verification.
  1. You have created a project for the file system. For more information about projects and steps to create a project, see Project overview and Project management.
  1. You have created a virtual private cloud (VPC). If you have not created a VPC or want to create a new VPC. For more information, see Creating VPCs.
  1. Mount nodes have been created within the VPC, including ECS and GPU servers. For detailed steps, see Creating ECS instances.
warning
To achieve optimal performance, vePFS and the client ECS must be deployed in the same Availability Zone.
  1. Cross-service authorization has been completed. For instructions, see Cross-service authorization.
Steps
  1. Log in to the vePFS Console.
  1. In the top menu bar, select the region where you want to create the file system.
  1. You can create a file system using the following methods:
  • On the Overview page
  • On the Overview page, in the Getting Started section, click Create Now.
  • In the Overview page, under the Selection Guide section, click the Create button below the target specification file system.
  • On the File System List page
  1. In the left navigation pane, click File System > File System List.
  1. On the File System List page, click Create File System in the upper left corner.
  1. Set the following parameters on the Create File System page.
  • Basic information
  •
    Parameter
    Note
    Name
Set the name of the file system. The mount target must:
    • The permission group name must start with Chinese characters or English letters.
    • The permission group name can only contain Chinese characters, letters, numbers, periods (.), underscores (_), or hyphens (-).
    • Length must be between 1 and 128 characters.
    Description
Provide additional information about the file system to help you identify it later. Descriptions must:
    • Start with Chinese characters, letters, or numbers.
    • Contain only Chinese characters, letters, numbers, spaces, periods (.), underscores (_), hyphens (-), equal signs (=), English commas (,), Chinese commas (,), and Chinese periods (。).
    • The length must be between 0 and 120 characters.
    Billing method
The current file storage vePFS only supports pay-as-you-go. For more information about billing, seeBilling Overview.
    Availability Zone
Select the availability zone for the file system.
    tip
For optimal performance, vePFS and your ECS client should be deployed in the same availability zone.

  • Network configuration
  •
    Parameter
    Note
    Private network
Select or create the private network where the file system will be located. We recommend deploying the file system and ECS instance in the same private network to enable optimal performance through internal connectivity. If they are not in the same private network, they cannot communicate efficiently over the intranet.
    tip
The private network cannot be changed after the file system is created.
    Subnet
Select or create a subnet available within the private network. A subnet is an IP address block within the private network. All cloud resources in the private network must be deployed within a subnet, which allocates private IP addresses to these resources. For more information, seeCreate Subnet.
    warning
A single file system can consume up to 256 IP addresses. To ensure vePFS file system scalability, make sure the subnet has sufficient available IPs.

  • Instance configuration
  •
    Parameter
    Note
    Specifications
Select the specification for the file system you want to create. For details about the specifications, see Product Specifications.
    Version number
The first two digits of the supported mount service version for the file system must be greater than or equal to the first two digits of the file system instance version number.
    Mount service binding relationship
You can click Create Mount Service to create a new mount service and bind a file system. You can also click the name of an available mount service to enter its page and bind a file system. For more information, see Binding File System.
    Capacity
Select the capacity for the file system. For more details about capacity, see Product Specifications.

  • Advanced configuration
  •
    Parameter
    Note
    Category
Select or create a project to which the file system belongs.
    tip
A project is a virtual concept that comprises a set of resources, users, and roles. It provides a unified view of and access to resources, as well as control over user and role permissions within the project. For more details, see Resource Management.
    Tags
Click Add Field and enter the tag key and tag value to add tags to the file system. For detailed tag key-value settings, see Tag Settings Rules.
A tag consists of a key-value pair, used to identify cloud resources. Tags help you classify resources with similar characteristics from various perspectives, such as purpose, owner, or environment, making it easier to filter, aggregate, and manage resources in the cloud. For more information, see Tag Overview.

  1. Click Confirm Order to view the order details page.
  1. On the Details page, verify the file system parameters, read and check The Terms of Storage Products and Services, and click Buy Now.
  • After your purchase, click Go to Console to view the file system in the file system list.
tip
It takes some time to create a file system. Please wait patiently.
