Access point overview
An access point is a directory-level entry provided by Volcano Engine File Storage vePFS for accessing the file system. This article explains the basic information about access points.
Access points can partition vePFS subdirectories into separate access spaces. Each access point specifies its own root directory and access policy. When different IAM users or IAM roles mount the file system through an access point, their access is restricted to the corresponding root directory, and data access permissions are determined by the access point’s policy. You can create multiple access points in a vePFS file system, configure different access policies for each, and apply them to various business scenarios. This reduces the complexity of managing permissions when multiple businesses access shared datasets.
- Tenant isolation at directory level
- Each access point is linked to a root directory, which is a subdirectory of the file system. When you access the file system via the access point, you can only access the data within the corresponding root directory.
- Simplified permission management
- EFS allows you to manage permissions using Identity and Access Management (IAM). You can set IAM policies for access points and grant access to different IAM users or roles.
- EFS uses a single POSIX identity for read and write actions when accessing the file system through an access point.
