This article outlines common issues related to vePFS file storage, operating systems, and compatibility for your reference.
Which operating systems and access protocols does vePFS support?
- The Linux operating system supports access via vePFS Client, FSX, and protocol services such as NFSv3. For more information about the NFS protocol, see NFS Protocol Overview.
- The Windows operating system supports access through the SMB protocol service. For more information about the SMB protocol, see SMB Protocol Overview.
- For additional information on operating systems and access protocols, see Restrictions.
What should I do if an error occurs when running programs in the vePFS directory on the veLinux 1.0 image?
If your mount service was created before July 11, 2023 and you added a client node using the veLinux 1.0 image (kernel 5.4.250), running executable files in the mounted directory will result in the following error message:
The error occurs because kernel 5.4.250 requires loading code via read_iter. The vePFS module on client nodes released before July 11, 2023, does not support this interface. If you encounter this compatibility issue, select another compatible operating system. For the list of supported operating systems, see Client Limitations. If you have other requirements, submit a ticket to contact Volcano Engine for assistance. What should I do if the vePFS mount target does not read data correctly via splice_read?
When using the Volcano public image ubuntu 20.04 (kernel version 4.18), ubuntu 22.04 (kernel 5.15), or veLinux 1.0 (kernel versions 5.4, 5.10), if the application reads an empty file using splice_read, a readpage action is triggered, and a zero page is cached in pagecache. Subsequent splice_read requests hit the zero page, resulting in abnormal data reads.
If you encounter this issue, you can upgrade the kernel version on client nodes to avoid it. Submit a ticket to contact Volcano Engine for assistance. What should I do if writing data via splice_write on the vePFS mount target results in an error?
When the ECS operating system kernel version is 5.10 or above, writing files with splice_write causes errors because vePFS currently does not support splice_write.
If you encounter this issue, choose an image with a lower kernel version to avoid it. Submit a ticket to contact Volcano Engine for assistance.
