Tag overview
File storage vePFS supports tag management. Tags help you categorize file systems by purpose, type, owner, environment or other criteria, making filtering and managing cloud resources easier.
Feature introduction
As cloud resources grow, management complexity increases. Volcano Engine offers tag-based resource management, enabling customizable identification and classification of cloud service resources across various dimensions. You can use tags to organize cloud resources by business category, purpose, user, or other criteria. These tags allow for the quick querying and filtering of specific resource categories once applied. vePFS File Storage lets you add tags to file systems, supporting tag management at the file system level. A tag consists of a key-value pair, where a tag key is associated with exactly one tag value. You can add multiple tags of different categories to each vePFS file system, such as StoreType:100, region:beijing, and more. Each tag can also be assigned to multiple file systems. For example, batch-setting the same tag owner:Alice on certain vePFS file systems.
Use cases
Tags are particularly useful in the following scenarios.
  • Cloud resource classification management When there are a large number of cloud resources, it is difficult to manage and identify them by file system name alone. You can organize vePFS file systems by business scenarios, assigning identical tags to file systems in the same scenario. After setting up tags, you can easily filter file systems by tag keys and values.
  • Billing and cost allocation: If your business scenario requires cost allocation by different organizations or departments, you can use tags to classify cloud resources. Assign identical tags to cloud resources within the same organization or department to allocate costs during periodic billing.
Notice
  • You can add multiple categories of tags to each vePFS file system. However, tag keys within the same file system must be unique, and each tag key can have only one tag value. For example, when adding tags to vePFS file system A, if the tag StoreType:100 has already been added, you must remove the tag StoreType:100 before adding StoreType:300.
  • Tag information is not shared across regions. For example, tags created in the China (Beijing) region are not visible in the China (Shanghai) region.
  • There is no limit to the total number of tags, but each vePFS file system can be associated with up to 50 tags. For detailed rules on tag settings, see Tag Setting Rules.
Usage examples
For example, a company purchased five vePFS file systems from Volcano Engine for game, artificial intelligence, and IoT business units, serving users in Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shanghai, with Alice, Ben, and Carl responsible for maintenance. To simplify management, you can categorize file systems using tags. In this case, company A can create the following tag keys and values.

Tag keys
Tag value
department
game, ai, iot
region
beijing, guangzhou, shanghai
owner
Alice, Ben, Carl

In this case, each file system can have its own tags.
