Create a BMQ instance
An instance is an independent resource entity that corresponds to a cluster. You can create topics and consumer groups within an instance. This topic describes how to create an instance.
Prerequisites
To create an instance, you need to select a private network, subnet, and security group, which must be created in advance. For specific operations, see Create a private network, Create a subnet, and Add security group access rules.
The default port for the BMQ instance access address is 9092. You need to allow the corresponding port in the security group.
tip
Source address indicates that the network interface card in the security group allows or denies access by resources within the source address. When configuring the inbound source address, the following configuration methods are supported:
  • CIDR: Enter the network address range, which means all IP addresses within this range are used as the source address.
  • Prefix list: Select a prefix list from the dropdown. All IP addresses in the prefix list are used as the source address. A prefix list is a group of CIDRs.
  • Security group: Select a security group from the dropdown. The IP addresses of the network interface cards in the selected security group are used as the source address.
Operation steps
  1. In the top menu bar, select a project and region.
  1. In the left navigation pane, select BMQ instance, then click Create Instance.
  1. On the Create Instance page, set the basic information, instance configuration, network information, topic configuration, and other key parameters, then click Next: Confirm order.
  •
    Parameters
    DescriptionDescription
    Basic information

    Billing type
Select the billing method for the instance.
Currently, Pay-as-you-go and Subscription billing methods are supported. For billing details, see Billing details.
If you select the Subscription billing method, you also need to select the Subscription duration and confirm whether to enable Auto-renewal.
    Instance name
    Enter the instance name.
Consists of lowercase letters, digits, hyphens (-), and underscores (_), with a length of 1–63 characters.
    Description
Enter the description information for the instance.
    Length: 0–128 characters.
    Region and availability zone
The region has been selected and cannot be changed.
Select single availability zone or multiple availability zones based on requirements such as network latency, high availability, and disaster recovery.
    • Single availability zone: Select an appropriate availability zone.
    • Multiple availability zones: Multiple availability zones are selected by default. You can adjust the selection as needed.
    Project
Select the project to which the instance belongs from the drop-down list.
You can group and manage cloud resources used by different businesses or projects. Granting IAM permissions based on projects helps maintain resource isolation and data security; you can also view resource consumption bills from the project perspective, making it easier to calculate cloud resource usage costs.
    Tags
You can add tags to the instance for easier identification and management. Up to 20 tags can be added.
Note the following when configuring tags:
    • Only uppercase and lowercase letters, digits, Chinese characters, and special characters .:/=+-_@ are supported. Keys and values are case-sensitive.
    • The Key cannot start with any case variation of volc:, such as volc:, Volc:, vOlc:, volc:, and many other combinations (16 combinations).
    • Key length: 1–128 characters; Value length: 1–256 characters.
    Instance configuration

    Instance specifications
Estimate the number of Topics, Consumer Groups, partitions, and peak read/write traffic based on your business scenario, then select the appropriate instance specification.
For details about instance specifications, refer to Instance specification.
    Storage specifications
CloudFS accelerated storage is used by default, and CloudFS Pay-as-you-go billing is used for accounting, with no additional configuration required.
    Network information

    Private network
To ensure smooth access within the intranet, it is recommended to select the VPC located in the region of your existing cloud business. Within the same VPC, subnets in different availability zones are interconnected.
If no private network is available, see Create a private network.
    Subnet
Select a subnet from the drop-down list. The system will automatically filter available subnets based on the selected region, availability zone, and private network.
    tip
    • If the instance is deployed across multiple availability zones, you need to configure a subnet for each selected availability zone separately.
    Security group
Select a security group from the drop-down list.
The default port for the BMQ instance access address is 9092. You need to allow the corresponding port in the security group. If there is no available security group, refer to Create security group.
    Topic configuration

    Message retention period
Set the default message retention period for all topics under this instance.
    • The default is 72 hours and can be adjusted in hourly increments.
    • The supported retention range is 1–336 hours (14 days).
    Access settings

    Public network access
You can enable public network access for the instance.
To enable public network access, you need to bind an EIP. Please create an EIP in advance. For operation steps, see Apply for a public IP.
The public address will be bound to the EIP, and fees are charged based on EIP. For details, see EIP product billing.

  1. On the Order details page, confirm the instance configuration information, read and select the product-related agreements, then click Buy now.
  1. View the instance creation progress.
  • After submitting the purchase order, you can return to the Instances page in the console. The purchased instance is displayed as Initializing. After initialization is complete, it is displayed as Running.
