Regions and availability zones
This topic introduces the regions and availability zones supported by the VolcanoEngine cloud-native messaging engine to help you select a region and availability zone.
Background information
Before selecting a region and availability zone to purchase BMQ resources, you should first understand the basic definitions and related features of regions and availability zones.
Region: Refers to different geographic areas where data centers are located, usually divided according to the city where the data center is situated. For example, the North China 2 (Beijing) region indicates that the data center is located in Beijing.
Availability zone: Refers to a physical area within the same region where power and network are independent from each other. Availability zones are isolated from failures; a failure in one availability zone does not affect the normal operation of other availability zones.
tip
  • A region typically consists of multiple availability zones. Within the same region, different availability zones under the same private network can communicate over the internal network; availability zones in different regions are completely isolated.
  • The region and availability zone selected when purchasing a BMQ instance cannot be changed after the instance is created.
  • The availability of resources in different regions may be adjusted at any time based on actual business usage, and you may encounter situations where resources cannot be purchased due to being sold out. Please refer to the resources available on the purchase page in the console. When resources are sold out and cannot be purchased, you can try selecting a different availability zone or region to purchase.
How to choose

Considerations
Description
Multi-cloud product network connectivity
When your cloud-native messaging engine needs to connect to other cloud services over the network, it is recommended to deploy BMQ and other cloud services in the same region and the same availability zone. This ensures that all cloud services can communicate over the internal network, reducing access latency and improving access speed.
Network latency
  • To reduce access latency, it is recommended to purchase BMQ instances in the region closest to you. The closer you are to the resource region, the lower the network latency and the faster the access speed.
  • To achieve even lower latency, it is recommended to purchase BMQ instances in the same availability zone.
High availability and disaster recovery
To achieve higher disaster recovery capability, deploy your business in different availability zones to ensure failure isolation between zones and enable cross-availability zone disaster recovery.
tip
Evaluate based on the actual needs of your business and find the optimal balance between high availability and low latency.
