What is Elastic Compute Service
Elastic Compute Service (ECS) is a collection of resources such as CPUs, memory, and volumes. Each resource is logically mapped to a physical computing hardware in a data center. You can buy resources of different sizes and instance types to meet your specific load needs. You do not have to worry about the location or status of the underlying hardware servers.
Product architecture
ECS primarily includes a variety of feature components such as instances, images, EBS Volumes, network interfaces, security groups, and private/Elastic IPs. By integrating ECS with other cloud products, you can enable capabilities like monitoring and intelligent deployment. This helps you build a reliable, secure, efficient, and flexible operational environment.
Accessing and managing ECS
  • Console
  • You can log on to the ECS console to manage your resources on the web page.
  • API
  • You can use HTTP or HTTPS protocols for request communication to make online API calls or perform custom development. For more information, refer to API Reference.
  • SDK Reference: The API provides an SDK that supports multiple programming languages such as Java, Go, and Python. This allows you to make API calls easily.
  • CLI Reference: The API provides a supporting command line tool. You can use it to write Shell scripts to automatically and efficiently manage your cloud services and resources.
  • An open-source IT infrastructure orchestration tool that supports defining infrastructures or applications based on configuration files. With Terraform, you can easily orchestrate ECS resources. For example, you can create, manage, and maintain such resources, and manage their versions.
  • An Infrastructure as Code (IaC) automation tool built on Terraform. As a developer, with Pulumi, you can define and deploy ECS resources using programming languages like Python, TypeScript, C#, and Go. This way, you do not need to learn languages used in vendors' templates.
