Viewing the mapping between volume IDs and device names
ECS allows you to view the mapping between volume IDs and device names. This makes it easier to check basic information, such as capacity, in real time when extending a volume. This topic explains how to do so.
Constraints and limitations
This feature is available for ESSD volumes. This feature is not available for PTSSD volumes and local disks.
Viewing the mapping in the console
  1. Log in to the ECS console.
  1. In the left navigation pane, select "Instances & Images > Instances".
  1. In the top menu bar, select the project and region where the instance resides.
  1. On the "Instances" page, click the instance you want to manage.
tip
Alternatively, click the icon in the "Monitoring" column of the instance on the "Instances" page.
  1. On the instance details page, click the "Monitoring" tab.
  1. Click the "Operating system monitoring" tab.
  1. In the "Disk" section, hover over a device name to see its associated volume ID.
tip
In the "Disk" section, click the volume ID. This will take you to the volume details page where you can view the volume's information.
Viewing the mapping using commands
  1. Run this command to get information about the device.
  •
    lsblk

  • You will see output similar to the following:
  •
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
    vda 253:0 0 40G 0 disk
    ├─vda1 253:1 0 200M 0 part /boot/efi
    └─vda2 253:2 0 39.8G 0 part /
    vdb 253:16 0 40G 0 disk
    └─vdb1 253:17 0 9.8G 0 part

  • Obtain the device name from the output.
  1. Run this command to obtain the serial number of the device.
  •
    udevadm info --query=all --name=<device name> | grep SERIAL

  • Example:
  •
    udevadm info --query=all --name=vdb1 | grep SERIAL

  • You will see output similar to the following:
  •
    E: ID_SERIAL=3vosmnm2p43x35co****

  1. Run this command to get the mapping between device serial numbers and volume IDs.
  •
    curl 100.96.0.96/latest/serial_number

  • You will see output similar to the following:
  •
    [{"serial_number":"3vod4yzzkd5a711he****","volume_id":"vol-3vod4yzzkd5a711h****"},{"serial_number":"3vosmnm2p43x35co****","volume_id":"vol-3vosmnm2p43x35co****"}]root@iv-yczcswenswcva4fm****:~#
