Tag management
Resource tags consist of key-value pairs. You can use resource tags to classify and aggregate cloud resources across multiple dimensions, and in scenarios such as tag-based authorization and bill splitting. This topic describes how to use tags in veFaaS.
Tag types
  • System tags: Tags automatically added to a resource during resource creation. They typically start with volc: or sys:. System tags are read-only and cannot be edited.
  • User-defined tags: Tags added to resources manually by users. User-defined tags cannot start with volc: or sys: in any letter case.
Application scenarios
  • Resource grouping
  • You can add different tags to resources in different environments, such as production and test environments. For example, add the tag "env:test" to all functions in the test environment. During routine maintenance, you can then first filter this group of tagged functions before performing operations.
  • Tag-based bill splitting
  • In team or project management, you can add tags by group, project, or department (such as CostCenter:Project) to group resources, and then implement tag-based bill splitting in the Billing Center.
Considerations
  • veFaaS resources that can be managed by tag include functions.
  • A tag consists of a key and a value. Tag keys and values are case-sensitive. Tag values can be empty.
  • A resource cannot have duplicate tag keys. Each tag key can only have one tag value.
  • You can add up to 20 tags at a time. A resource can have up to 50 tags.
Procedure
This topic uses functions as an example to demonstrate how to manage cloud resources by tag. The general procedure for tag-based resource management is as follows:
  1. Authorize an IAM user by tag: Grant IAM users permission to resources carrying specific tags.
  1. Create functions: As an IAM user, create functions and bind tags to the functions.
  1. (Optional) Edit tags: You can add, edit, or delete tags bound to functions as needed.
  1. (Optional) Split the bill by tag: You can filter bills by tags.
View tags and resources
View tags bound to resources
  1. Log in to the veFaaS console.
  1. In the top navigation bar, select the region where your business is located.
  1. In the function list, find the target function and click its name.
  1. On the Function settings tab, view the tags bound to functions.
Search resources by tag
  1. Log in to the veFaaS console.
  1. In the top navigation bar, select the region where your business is located.
  1. In the function list, quickly search for functions by tag using the following methods.
  1. Click the search bar above the function list and select Label from the drop-down list.
  1. In the text box that appears, specify the tag key and value to search for. You can specify multiple tags, which are combined with an OR operator.
tip
Tag values can be left blank or empty:
  • If a tag value is left blank, no restriction is imposed on the tag value, and the tag value can be any arbitrary value.
  • If a tag value is empty, the system searches for tags with the specified key and an empty value (tags where no value is provided during tag creation).
  1. Click Confirm to view all instances with the target tag.
Edit tags
Edit tags for existing resources
You can add, modify, or delete tags.
  1. Log in to the veFaaS console.
  1. In the top navigation bar, select the region where your business is located.
  1. In the function list, select any of the following methods to enter the tag editing page.
  1. Find the target function and click the edit icon in the Label column.
  1. Click the name of the target function to enter the Function settings tab, and in the Basic information section, click the edit icon in the Label field.
  1. In the pop-up "Edit label" dialog box, add, edit, or delete tags as needed.
tip
You can add up to 20 tags at a time. A resource can have up to 50 tags.
  1. Click Confirm.
Tag design principles
When tagging resources, we recommend that you follow certain design principles. For details, see Tag design principles.
