Native Runtime enables developers to build functions using native HTTP frameworks. Developing functions with Native Runtime must comply with the Native Runtime specifications of Volcano Engine veFaaS. This topic describes the runtime environment, development methods, log collection, and deployment procedures for Native Runtime functions (hereinafter referred to as "Native functions").
Runtime environments
Native Runtime is a custom runtime environment provided by veFaaS. You can build a dedicated function runtime environment based on Native Runtime to support the following customization requirements:
- Specify programming languages, such as JavaScript and Java.
- Specify runtime environments for specific programming language versions, such as Node.js 10.
Programming languages
Only the Go language is currently supported for developing Native functions. More languages will be supported in the future. To develop functions using another programming language, use the image-based deployment method: Import the runtime for the programming language into the Dockerfile, package it as an image, and deploy Native functions using the image. The following content provides an example of importing a runtime environment for a programming language into the Dockerfile.
Container environment
The container environment for Native Runtime is as follows:
- Operating system version: Debian GNU/Linux 11.
Filesystem restrictions
Write access is limited to the /tmp directory within containers. The default temporary storage capacity is 512 MB. Exceeding this limit will cause the service to be evicted and restarted.
tip
Data written locally is non-persistent and will be deleted upon container destruction. Be cautious when using temporary storage. For persistent storage, see Function storage options.
