Temporary upgrade refers to temporarily upgrading the instance specification for a continuous period before the instance expires, and automatically reverting the instance configuration to the state before the temporary upgrade at the specified restore time. Temporary upgrade applies to scenarios such as major promotions or online operations during holidays.
1. Restrictions on Temporary Upgrade
- Temporary upgrade supports only monthly subscription configurations.
- The end time of the temporary upgrade cannot be later than the instance expiration time.
- Temporary downgrade is not supported.
- During temporary upgrade, renewing the instance will continue with the original configuration.
- During temporary upgrade, instance cancellation is not supported.
- During temporary upgrade, the instance can be temporarily upgraded again (temporary upgrade order) or converted to a permanent upgrade (upgrade order). The specification of the instance for repeated temporary upgrades or conversion to permanent upgrade cannot be lower than the current instance specification.
- Prepaid instances purchased before financial custody, or those purchased during financial custody but after the custody relationship ends, allow temporary upgrades. However, the original temporary upgrade orders have no remaining value (i.e., the remaining value is zero), and temporary upgrade fees are recalculated based on the new configuration price and the remaining duration.
- Prepaid instances purchased before establishing the consignment or agency sales relationship do not allow temporary upgrades during the consignment or agency sales period; instances purchased during this period also do not allow temporary upgrades after the relationship ends.
2. Temporary Upgrade Billing Rules
When you temporarily upgrade resource specifications, the hourly list price of the upgraded configuration must be equal to or higher than the current effective configuration’s hourly list price. The system then calculates the amount you need to pay based on the upgrade formula.
tip
- Because discounts have expiration dates, the price shown on the operation page during temporary upgrades may differ from the price after order submission. The latter price prevails.
- You can pay for temporary upgrade fees through your account balance (including credit limit) or third-party payment platforms such as WeChat Pay and Alipay.
- After initiating a temporary upgrade, a temporary upgrade order is generated, but if payment is not made on the same day:
- If you pay within the order validity period, the final fee remains unchanged, based on the fee at the time of initiating the temporary upgrade.
- Alternatively, you can choose to cancel the order and initiate a new temporary upgrade.
- The calculation examples in this document are for reference only, and results are rounded to two decimal places. When calculating the temporary upgrade fee, it is recommended to keep the calculation accurate to 16 decimal places to avoid discrepancies between the calculation results and the actual display on the page.
Initial temporary upgrade billing rules
Temporary upgrade order payable amount = Temporary upgrade target configuration cost - remaining value of the non-temporary configuration = (Monthly list price of temporary upgrade target configuration / 30 days / 24 hours * temporary upgrade duration * applicable discount - monthly list price of non-temporary configuration / 30 days / 24 hours * temporary upgrade duration * applicable discount) * temporary upgrade coefficient
tip
- Temporary upgrade duration is measured in hours.
- Applicable discount: The discount for the temporary upgrade target configuration uses the system’s latest discount for the temporary upgrade duration, while the non-temporary configuration discount is the original order discount.
- Configuration cost = the sum of all billing item costs included in the configuration/instance.
Example: On May 1 at 12:00, the user purchased a public IP with 1M bandwidth for one month at a monthly price of 23 yuan (Volcano Engine - Public IP pricing details). At 12:30, the user temporarily upgraded the bandwidth to 2M for a 1-hour period (reverting to 1M at 1:30). Assuming the public IP’s temporary upgrade coefficient is fixed at 1.15, then temporary upgrade order payable amount = temporary upgrade target configuration cost - remaining value of the non-temporary configuration = (46 yuan / 30 days / 24 hours * 1 hour - 23 yuan / 30 days / 24 hours * 1 hour) * 1.15 = 0.04 yuan. Continuous temporary upgrade
Temporary upgrade order total payable amount = temporary upgrade target configuration cost - remaining value of the currently effective temporary configuration
- Temporary upgrade target configuration cost = (monthly unit price of temporary upgrade target configuration / 30 days / 24 hours * temporary upgrade duration * applicable discount - monthly unit price of non-temporary configuration / 30 days / 24 hours * remaining temporary upgrade duration * applicable discount) * temporary upgrade coefficient
- Current valid remaining value of temporary configuration = (monthly unit price of current valid temporary configuration / 30 days / 24 hours * remaining temporary upgrade duration * applicable discount - monthly unit price of non-temporary configuration / 30 days / 24 hours * original remaining temporary upgrade duration * applicable discount) * temporary upgrade coefficient
tip
- The temporary upgrade duration is measured in hours.
- Remaining temporary upgrade duration = (original temporary upgrade restore time - current temporary upgrade time) / 24 hours, calculated precisely to the second.
- The discount for the temporary upgrade target configuration corresponds to the system's latest discount for the temporary upgrade duration.
- The discount for the current valid temporary configuration is the original order discount.
- The discount for the non-temporary configuration is the original order discount.
- Temporary upgrade coefficient: The coefficient can be set in tiers based on duration. The system calculates coefficients separately according to temporary upgrade duration and remaining temporary upgrade duration.
- Configuration cost = the sum of all billing item costs included in this configuration/instance.
- If the temporary upgrade target configuration cost is less than 0, it is calculated as 0; if the remaining value of the currently effective temporary configuration is less than 0, it is calculated as 0.
Example: A user purchased a public IP with 1M bandwidth at noon on May 1 for one month. The monthly unit price is 23 yuan (Volcengine - Public IP Pricing Details). At 12:30, the user temporarily upgraded the bandwidth to 2M for a one-hour period (renewing back to 1M at 1:30). At 13:00, the user upgraded the bandwidth to 3M temporarily (renewing back to 1M at 14:00). Assuming the temporary bandwidth upgrade coefficient for the public IP is a fixed 1.15, then the payable amount for the temporary upgrade order summary = temporary upgrade target configuration cost - remaining value of the currently effective temporary configuration = (71 yuan/30 days/24 hours * 1 hour - 23 yuan/30 days/24 hours * 1 hour) * 1.15 - (46 yuan/30 days/24 hours * 0.5 hour - 23 yuan/30 days/24 hours * 0.5 hour) * 1.15 = 0.06 yuan.
