This topic describes the application scenarios of Container Registry (CR).
OCI artifact lifecycle management
CR provides full lifecycle management capabilities for OCI artifacts such as container images and Helm charts, including building, uploading, downloading, and deleting OCI artifacts.
DevOps delivery
CR seamlessly integrates with VKE and CP to help enterprises achieve one-stop cloud-native container DevOps delivery.
AI training acceleration
AI container images are generally large, with a single image reaching 10 GB or more. As a result, image pulls can take a long time or fail. The CR Standard Edition automatically converts the format of large AI images, loads them on demand, and decompresses them online. This significantly reduces the time from container creation to completion of the image pull and improves distribution performance.
Application deployment in large-scale clusters
When a VKE cluster is large and experiences burst scaling, image pulls may become slow. When the P2P acceleration capabilities of CR Standard Edition and VKE are used, bandwidth between cluster nodes can be reused to accelerate image distribution to a large number of nodes in the cluster, reduce download time, and improve distribution performance.
Image migration and backup
Many customers currently use public cloud services from multiple providers and operate their own IDCs. With containerized microservice applications becoming predominant, container image distribution, backup, and migration can present challenges. The CR Standard Edition enables easy image synchronization and migration, helping users seamlessly synchronize local images to Volcano Engine Container Registry. Together with VKE, it enables container images to be pulled over the private network, ensuring application startup speed and elasticity.
