What is a package
In software development, "package" is a technical term referring to binary files generated by compiling and packaging source code. Different programming languages correspond to different formats of binary files, which can typically be run directly on servers to support application operation.
Why is an artifact repository needed
Many traditional enterprises still manage packages using rudimentary management tools (such as FTP). This loose package management method can lead to many problems. For example: how to store and obtain different types of packages, how to manage and track different versions of packages, how to collaborate across different teams, and more.
Volcano Engine artifact repository is a professional package management product built on public cloud infrastructure. It provides secure package management solutions for managing packages produced after source code is edited. The service supports Maven, Generic, and PyPI format sources, and will continue to achieve seamless integration with cloud-based products such as continuous integration (CP), Vital Kubernetes Engine (VKE), and more.
