An area chart, also known as a region chart, plots data arranged in rows or columns of a worksheet as points on the chart, connects them with straight lines, and displays them as a filled area. An area chart is similar to a line chart, but differs in that it fills the space between the line and the X-axis with color. It is suitable for illustrating data trends and the contribution of parts to the whole. The product provides area charts and percentage area charts.
An area chart emphasizes the degree of change in values over time or across categories. It can also show the trend of parts within the whole, drawing attention to the overall trend. For example, the change in sales amounts across regions over time.
Area chart example
Percentage area chart example
Step 1: Set dimensions, metrics, and filter conditions
Select [Date] and [Region] as dimensions; [Brand sales volume] as the metric.
Step 2: Select area chart from the chart panel
Step 3: Modify the chart format as needed
Click the triangle under area chart to switch between "Area chart" and "Percentage area chart".
Both support plotting after setting one or more dimensions and one or more metrics. Generally, there are no more than two metrics.
Dimension: Supports one or more dimensions. If there is more than one dimension, the second and subsequent dimensions are displayed in a stacked manner, distinguished by different colors.
Metric: Supports one or more metrics, typically one metric. If there is more than one metric, the second and subsequent metrics are displayed in a stacked manner, distinguished by different colors.
Example 1: One dimension, one metric
Example 2: Two dimensions, one metric
Dimension: Supports one or more dimensions, typically multiple dimensions. If there is more than one dimension, the second and subsequent dimensions will be stacked on the bars and distinguished by different colors.
Metric: Supports one or more metrics, typically one metric. If there is more than one metric, the second and subsequent metrics will be displayed in a stacked manner and distinguished by different colors.
Percentage display: The sum of the area stacks for the first dimension is 100%.
Example 1: One dimension, two metrics
Example 2: Two dimensions, one metric
In-chart controls include: filters, dynamic dimensions/metrics, and in-chart parameters. You can configure the styles.
For example: arrange the title of the dynamic metric control style vertically; set the layout to a balanced position.
You can set corresponding colors for the area chart. Multiple color schemes are built into the product.
It also supports Custom Color Schemes
Scope of effect: You can set different display styles for a specified data series.
