Dashboard editing, also referred to as dashboard design, dashboard creation, or dashboard layout, is the process of combining and arranging components (controls) such as charts, text, images, and filters to construct a data story board based on business logic. This article introduces the editing operations for the left control panel area of the dashboard.
The new dashboard editing interface is divided into the top navigation area, left control panel area, central canvas area, right page configuration area, and bottom multi-page editing area.
This article will introduce the left control panel area. As shown in the figure below, the red-marked area on the left is the control panel area. The following operations will be introduced in the order of the controls from top to bottom:
Because global filters, dimensions/metrics, query containers, and dynamic parameters serve similar functions, they are introduced together in this section.
By adding tabs to the dashboard, you can insert a component with multiple switchable tabs on the page. Each tab can contain multiple charts, text, web pages, images, or even other tabs.
tip
Tab component layout options include tile layout and free layout. The default option follows the dashboard layout. If the dashboard uses tile layout, newly added Tab components will also use tile layout.
Dashboards usually require text to introduce the nature of the dashboard, data scope, and other information. Sometimes, text is also needed to supplement the display and explanation of charts. Add a text widget to insert text descriptions.
You can edit the style of the text content, including color, font size, weight, spacing, adding hyperlinks, and more.
In V2.58.0 and later versions, users can select text in the text component editing area and set it as a first-, second-, or third-level heading style to make the dashboard clearer and more focused.
Select web page, and a web page widget will appear on the page. After selecting it, you can enter the web page link on the right. After entering the link, the web page widget will display the content of the linked page. You can configure the web page in the configuration panel on the right, including changing the URL (choosing whether to include a token), setting the display of the view mode icon, general settings, padding settings, and appearance settings.
In the material section of the component bar on the left side of the dashboard, you can select images, header images, title images, and dividers to more easily build a dashboard with a clear sense of hierarchy.
In the material section, select the image widget. In the image configuration panel on the right, you can configure the image, including selecting the image source (local images can be uploaded), display settings for the view state icon, general settings, padding settings, and appearance configuration.
In the material section, select the header image widget. A default header image appears on the dashboard. In the header image configuration panel on the right, you can configure the header image, including selecting the image source (you can use official images or upload local images), general settings, padding settings, appearance configuration, and height settings.
tip
Starting from V2.87.0, the minimum height restriction for dashboard header images has been removed, allowing users to freely adjust the header image height.
In the material section, select the title image widget. A default title image appears on the dashboard. In the title image configuration panel on the right, you can configure the title image, including selecting the image source (you can use official images or upload local images), general settings, padding settings, and appearance configuration.
In the material section, select the divider widget. A default divider appears on the dashboard. In the divider configuration panel on the right, you can configure the divider, including selecting the line style, general settings, and appearance configuration.
Click the "Relationship Diagram" widget and drag to add the relationship diagram component. The relationship diagram can be used to connect indicator cards with mathematical operators, enabling a more intuitive chart display. The result is as follows:
Steps:
The dashboard supports the table splicing feature, which allows multiple independent tables to be combined into a single table, making it easier for users to efficiently adjust the dashboard chart layout.
Applicable scenarios are as follows:
Users can choose to create a new table or use an existing table to create a spliced table.
When a spliced table is selected, you can configure the table title and table description on the right.
The spliced table supports four splicing methods: vertical, horizontal, custom, and hierarchical.
You can adjust the order of tables in a spliced table. After adjusting the order, the arrangement of tables in the spliced table will change.
In the splicing configuration area on the right, you can choose to add more tables to the current spliced table or modify the current table.
tip
The differences between concatenated tables and regular tables are as follows:
Tooltips are often needed in dashboards to provide additional information. Tooltips not only solve the problem of limited chart space and incomplete information display, but also help users quickly obtain data details and context, improving the efficiency and accuracy of dashboard data interpretation.
The tooltip icon can be selected from system icons or custom uploaded images. It supports style editing for both the tooltip icon and the tooltip itself, including color, size, border thickness, and more.
Metric analysis tree is a type of report used in attribution decision-making. It atomizes the capability of attributing metric anomalies into individual nodes, allowing users to organize and connect different types of nodes according to their actual business scenarios, weaving them into an executable "mind map". The metric analysis tree is suitable for various complex business analysis scenarios, helping users perform business analysis and provide decision support more effectively. You can add a completed metric analysis tree to the dashboard. For details, see Metric Analysis Tree.
Select the analysis tree. The analysis tree widget will appear on the page. After selecting it, you can choose an existing analysis tree or create a new one on the right side.
Users can configure the analysis tree in the configuration panel on the right, including the analysis tree title and style, displayed content, association with the global date filter, toolbar icon display, padding, and appearance.
Click Content Display to choose whether to show the analysis tree title in the dashboard widget. To set a custom title for the analysis tree, select Content Display as "Show custom title" and enter the custom title in the name configuration panel.
Users can select the content to be displayed in the analysis tree as needed, such as title, date selection, custom calculation, conclusion area, node tree area, and node details.
warning
The analysis tree cannot be fully displayed on mobile devices. In private deployment environments, starting from V2.91.0, only the "Conclusion Area" can be viewed on mobile devices, and other configurations do not take effect.
If a global date filter exists in the dashboard, you can select Associate with Global Date Filter on the right to align the time dimension of the data analyzed in the analysis tree with the dashboard, ensuring consistency in the time dimension of the data.
Users can select whether to display the comment, fullscreen, refresh, and view report buttons, customizing the interaction icons shown in the dashboard.
Users can configure the style of the analysis tree through general settings, padding, appearance settings, and more.
