Configure drill-down events for dashboard chart
Statistical charts in the dashboard support configuring drill-down events to enhance chart interactivity. This topic introduces the basic types of drill-down events.
Background information
Some statistical charts in TLS support configuring drill-down events. After you save the chart with the drill-down events in your dashboard, you can click the specified field in dashboard to trigger the relevant interaction. For example, if you set a drill-down event, specify events of field (UV) as the log topic and save the settings, then: when you click any cell in the UV column in the dashboard table and open log topic in the pop-up window, the query and analysis page of the specified topic will display automatically.
The chart types that currently support drill-down events include tables, line charts, bar charts, pie charts, histograms, single value charts, and statistical charts. Supported drill-down events include opening topic, opening dashboard, and opening HTTP link.
Configuration instructions
After executing SQL statements on the TLS query and analysis page, you can select a chart type on the statistics chart tab and set drill-down event. After saving this chart to the dashboard, you can trigger the corresponding drill-down events as needed when viewing the dashboard.
Open topic
On the drill-down event tab of the specified chart, click Add button and select a field. Then follow the page prompts to add drill-down events for this field, such as adding Open topic. After that, on the prompt page, configure the following settings:

Configuration
Description
Custom name
The name of the drill-down event. By default, it is Open topic.
Select project
The log project that includes the topic.
Select Topic
Specify the log topic. After triggering the drill-down event, the page automatically redirects to the specified log topic page.
Open method
Whether to open the specified log topic in a new window.
Time range
The preset query time range after triggering a drill-down event in the dashboard and redirecting to the specified log topic query and analysis page. Supported settings:
  • Inherit the absolute time of the current query: the time range corresponding to this chart when the interaction is triggered.
  • Last 1 minute and other relative time: the specified relative time.
  • Today and other fixed times: the specified fixed time.
Whether to inherit filtering
This setting determines whether to inherit the current dashboard filter conditions when opening the query and analysis page for a specified log topic. If you enable this feature, the dashboard filter conditions are added before the corresponding query and analysis statement with AND.
Query and analysis statement
When you open the query and analysis page for a specific log topic, the specified query and analysis statement here is used by default for query and analysis.
You can also click Add variable to insert variables into the query and analysis statement. After adding variables, TLS replaces the variables with actual values. Currently, you can add any result field of the query and analysis statement as a variable.
For example, if you set Area: ${{Province}} AND Method: ${{Method}}, it means you filter related data by specified province and request method.

Open dashboard
On the drill-down event tab of the specified chart, click Add button and select a field. Then follow the page prompts to add drill-down events for this field, such as adding Open dashboard. After that, on the prompt page, configure the following settings:

Configuration
Description
Custom name
The name of the drill-down event. By default, it is Open dashboard.
Select project
The log project that includes the topic.
Select dashboard
Specify a dashboard. After triggering the drill-down event, the page will automatically redirect to the specified dashboard.
Open method
Whether to open the specified dashboard in a new window.
Inherit on open
  • Inherit filter: When opening the specified dashboard page, choose whether to inherit the current dashboard's filter conditions. When enabled, the dashboard filter conditions will be added after the corresponding filter statement.
  • Inherit variables: When opening the specified dashboard page, choose whether to inherit the variable settings from the current dashboard.
Filter statement
When opening the dashboard, the filter statements specified here will be appended after the dashboard's filter statements.
You can also click Add variable to insert a variable into the filter statement. After you add a variable, TLS uses the variable value as a filter condition. Currently, you can add any result field of the query and analysis statement as a variable.
For example, if you set AND Method: ${{Method}} AND Area: ${{Province}}, it means you filter related data by the specified province and request method.
Dynamic variables
The dynamic variable you specified to add to the target dashboard.
Click Add dynamic variable, set the variable name and the column where its value is located. Once configured, TLS automatically syncs the values from the specified column to the target dashboard.
You can add up to 5 dynamic variables.
Static variables
The static variable that you specified to add to the target dashboard.
Click Add static variable, set the variable name and the column where its value is located. Once configured, TLS automatically syncs fixed field values to the target dashboard.
You can add up to 5 static variables.

Custom HTTP link
On the drill-down events tab of the specified chart, click Add button and select a field. You can then follow the page instructions to add drill-down events for this field, such as adding Open HTTP Link. After that, on the prompt page, configure the following settings:

Configuration
Description
Custom event name
The name of the drill-down event. By default, it is Open HTTP Link.
Protocol
The access protocol for the link.
Link address
Target link address.
You can also add variables to the link address. The currently supported variables include all result fields of the current query and analysis statement.
Open method
  • Transcoding: determines whether to encode the Query parameters in the link.
  • New window opens: determines whether to open the specified log topic in a new window.

Configuration example
Log topic user-log under log project user-log-project is used to store access logs for some website. You can create a dashboard to monitor website access data and name it "Access Performance Monitoring Dashboard." Various monitoring charts for access data can be added to this dashboard, such as a list of source cities, a Top 5 page list by visits, and charts showing the proportions of different access methods.
You can also add drill-down events for each chart in the dashboard. For example, set the drill-down event of the "City Access List" table as "Open dashboard," which opens a dashboard displaying a line chart of PV distribution over time—"Access Volume Trend Chart." After configuration, you can click any city in the "City Access List" table to view the PV trend for that city.
Taking this drill-down event as an example, here are the relevant steps.
  1. Create the dashboard "Access Performance Metrics Monitoring" and add the chart "Access Volume Trend Chart."
  • "Access Volume Trend Chart" is a line chart showing PV distribution over time. The corresponding query analysis statement is as follows.
  •
    * | SELECT date_format(__time__, 'Y-M-d HH:mm') AS time , COUNT(*) as PV group by time order by time

  • The chart configuration is as follows:
  • Image
  1. Add the "City Access List" table in the dashboard "Access Performance Metrics Monitoring."
  • The "City Access List" shows the PVs for each city, with the corresponding query and analysis statement below.
  •
    * | SELECT Area as "Province", COUNT(*) as PV group by Area

  1. Set drill-down events for the "City Access List" table.
  • Set Select dashboard to "Access Performance Metrics Monitoring."
  • Set the filter statement to AND Area: ${{Province}}.
  1. View the effect of the drill-down event settings.
  • In the "City Access List" table, click "City H" and select View current province data. TLS will open the dashboard "Access Performance Metrics Monitoring" and add a filter condition "Area: City H." to the dashboard.
  • The "Traffic Trend" chart displays the changes in PV for "City H" over time.
