What is Torch Log Service
VolcanoEngine Torch Log Service (TLS ) is a one-stop platform for log and trace data. It offers data collection, storage, query and analysis, transformation, consumption, shipping, monitoring and alarm, visualization and other features. It is suitable for business operation monitoring, data statistics, and analysis scenarios.
Product overview
TLS is a fully managed data platform that helps enterprises and organizations easily manage logs and trace data in cloud-native architectures. TLS provides comprehensive data access methods, stable data storage capabilities, powerful data query and analysis, rich processing functions and statistical charts, flexible consumption and shipping mechanisms, and one-stop alarm. TLS supports unified access for dozens of data sources, low-cost but stable storage, billion-level data queries in seconds, data normalization and masking, seamless integration with downstream systems like big data platforms, and second-level alarm for abnormal data. Based on these capabilities, TLS mainly applies to the following scenarios.
  • Business operation monitoring: TLS provides log platforms for enterprises to achieve business monitoring, operation, and maintenance.
  • Data statistics and analysis: TLS supports real-time display of key business indicators and trends. This facilitates decision makers to grasp business dynamics.
  • Data lake stream computing: TLS supports seamless integration with various real-time computing services or stream computing engines.
  • Cloud service log monitoring: TLS provides ready-to-use log analysis visualization applications and best practices for cloud product log scenarios.
  • Cyber-security classified protection compliance: TLS helps enterprises meet cyber-security classified protection compliance regulations.
Features
TLS mainly offers the following features:

Feature
Description
Data collection
Support access to dozens of data sources via LogCollector, API, SDK, etc., including host logs, container logs, VolcanoEngine Cloud product logs, data stored in Kafka/TOS/SLS/Elasticsearch products, and mobile data.
Data storage
Supports permanent data storage and infrequent access storage. Infrequent access storage reduces the cost of long-term data storage.
Data query and analysis
Provide built-in query syntax and more than 200 standard SQL92 functions to enable massive data retrieval and analysis.
Visualization
Provides rich statistical charts to visualize query and analysis results. Offers interactive dashboards to build comprehensive data analysis panels.
Data transformation
Offers dozens of DSL (Domain Specific Language) processing functions for scenarios like data replication, filtering, desensitization, splitting, and normalization.
SQL analysis
Supports regular query and analysis of data within a specified time range and outputs the analysis results to a designated Topic. It fulfills the needs of scenarios such as data analysis, aggregation, and filtering.
Data consumption and shipping
Supports real-time data consumption via SDK interfaces, Kafka protocol, and delivering data in real-time to cloud products like TOS and Kafka.
Alert
Provides a one-stop alert solution including data monitoring, alert notification, and alert management. Supports multiple notification channels (DingTalk, Feishu or Lark, WeCom, email, SMS, phone, etc.). Supports custom notification content that is designed through content syntax, content functions, and content variables.
Trace storage
Provides distributed tracing that is based on the native OpenTelemetry protocol and standards and supports full-link trace data observability.

Basic concepts
Before using TLS, get to know the following basic concepts.

Basic concepts
Description
Logging
Logs record events during the operation of systems or programs, including user actions, interface access, and runtime errors. Each log type has a consistent structure and format.
Link tracking data
Trace data records the entire service call chain information, including call relationships, latency, and results.
Log project
A log project is a data management unit used for tenant resource isolation and control. Generally, one log project corresponds to one application, business, or product.
Log topic
A log topic is a unit for data collection and storage. A project can include multiple log topics. Each log topic belongs to one log project. You can configure different data sources and collection rules for the same log topic.
Shard
A log shard is the basic unit for data read and write. All data is stored within shards. Each shard provides specific read and write capacity. We recommend that you plan the number of log shards based on actual business needs.

Product fees
TLS charges based on your actual daily resource usage. For more information, see Billing items based on pay-by-feature mode.
Using method
You can access TLS via the web console, API, or SDK.

Mode
Description
Console
You can log in to the Log Service Console to use your TLS resources.
SDK
TLS provides various SDK packages, such as Go, Java, and Python, for you to quickly perform secondary development.
API
You can call TLS API to use your TLS resources.
