How to handle high load on the K8S API Server caused by numerous ListWatch requests
In K8s log collection scenarios, if the K8S API Server experiences high CPU and memory load, increased latency for business requests, and similar issues due to receiving a large number of ListWatch requests, the possible causes are as follows:
- K8S may encounter network Exception or other Exception. LogCollector uses the K8s ListWatch mechanism to monitor container events. When LogCollector starts, it performs a ListWatch operation. If it encounters network Exception or other Exception, LogCollector will re-execute the ListWatch operation. If Exception occurs frequently, LogCollector may repeatedly trigger the ListWatch process. It is recommended to check whether K8S is experiencing network Exception or other Exception.
- If the cluster is large and a significant number of LogCollectors are deployed in the cluster (for example, more than 1,000), it is recommended to implement rate limiting for ListWatch requests on the ApiServer side to prevent excessive load on the ApiServer caused by numerous ListWatch requests.
