Changing object storage type
TOS supports multiple storage types. You can change the storage type of your objects via the console. This topic provides the necessary information and steps for doing so.
tip
Cold Archive and Deep Cold Archive are only available in China (Beijing), China (Shanghai), and China (Guangzhou). Deep Cold Archive is currently in closed beta. Please contact your account manager for access.
Prerequisites
To change an object's storage type, first toggle off the Show versions switch in the upper-right corner of the Objects page, if applicable.
Constraints and limitations

Category
Considerations
Versioning
If you have enabled versioning for your bucket, changing an object's storage type will not permanently delete the original, but instead add a deletion mark.
Object limits
  • To change an object's storage type via the console, ensure its size is less than 5 GiB.
  • If your object is larger than 5 GiB, use TOS SDKs to modify the storage type via multipart copy. The steps are as follows:
  1. Initiate the multipart copy task using CreateMultipartUpload, and set the desired storage type.
  1. Perform the copying using UploadPartCopy.
  1. Merge the parts using CompleteMultipartUpload.
Storage type
  • The following storage types are available for objects in a single-AZ bucket: Standard Storage, Intelligent Tiering, Infrequent Access Storage, Flashback Archive, Archive, Cold Archive, and Deep Cold Archive.
  • The following storage types are available for objects in a multi-AZ bucket: Standard Storage (Multi-AZ), Intelligent Tiering (Multi-AZ), Infrequent Access Storage (Multi-AZ), and Flashback Archive (Multi-AZ). For more information on multi-AZ, see Multi-AZ redundancy.
tip
Multi-AZ redundancy is currently only available in China (Beijing), China (Shanghai), China (Guangzhou), and Asia Pacific (Johor).

Billing notes

Storage type
Description
Infrequent Access Storage
Objects in Infrequent Access Storage must be stored for a minimum of 30 days. If the storage type is changed before this period has elapsed, the storage costs will be calculated as if the object had been stored for 30 days. For billing details, see Storage.
Flashback Archive
Objects in Flashback Archive must be stored for a minimum of 90 days. If the storage type is changed before this period has elapsed, the storage costs will be calculated as if the object had been stored for 90 days. For billing details, see Storage.
Archive
  • The storage type of objects cannot be changed until they have been restored, which will incur data retrieval costs. For billing details, see Data retrievals.
  • The minimum storage duration for each storage type is defined as follows. If you change the storage type of an object before the minimum storage duration has been met, you will be charged as if the object had been stored for the entire minimum duration. For billing details, see Storage.
  • Archive: 90 days
  • Cold Archive: 180 days
