Object metadata consists of a set of key-value pairs that describe the properties of an object. In TOS, there are two types of object metadata: standard HTTP properties and user-defined properties. This topic provides information about object metadata and explains how to define it.

Standard HTTP properties

Content-Type	Specifies the file type for the object. When an object is accessed via a browser, the browser uses the Content-Type header to determine how to open it. When objects are uploaded using the console, software development kits (SDKs), or other tools, the Content-Type is determined based on the file extension. User-defined metadata

TOS enables you to define metadata beginning with "x-tos-meta-" to help you manage objects more effectively. When you retrieve an object or query object metadata, the user-defined metadata will be returned in the response headers. One object can have multiple user-defined metadata entries, but the total size of all these entries must not exceed 8 KB.

Defining object metadata

This section explains how to define the metadata of existing objects. For information on defining object metadata when uploading objects, see Uploading objects.

Log in to the TOS console.

In the left navigation pane, click Buckets.

In the top menu bar, select the project of the bucket you want to manage.

On the Buckets page, click the name of the bucket.

On the Objects page, select ··· > Modify metadata in the Actions column of the object you want to manage.

In the box that appears, configure the metadata.

Save your settings by clicking Save.
