Restoring objects
This topic describes how to restore objects from Archive, Cold Archive, or Deep Cold Archive.
Notes
  • After restoration, TOS will generate a temporary copy in Standard Storage for your access. This copy will automatically be deleted after the validity period ends.
  • Changes to the storage type, metadata, or tags of a restored object will be applied directly to the original data.
  • The temporary copy expires at 00:00:00 UTC on the day after the validity period ends. Once the copy expires, it is automatically deleted and the object reverts to an inaccessible state in the Archive, Cold Archive, or Deep Cold Archive. Restore it to regain access.
  • For example, if you create a copy of an object on October 10, 2023, at 10:00:00 with a five-day validity period, the copy will expire at 00:00:00 on October 16, 2023.
Restoration process
Before they can be accessed, objects in Archive, Cold Archive, and Deep Cold Archive must be restored. The process is as shown below:

Restoration time
To restore an object stored in Archive, specify a copy validity period. If the object is stored in Cold Archive or Deep Cold Archive, set the copy validity period and restoration mode. The time required for restoration is explained below:

Storage type
Restoration time
Archive
The restoration process usually takes less than one minute for objects stored in Archive.
Cold Archive
The time it takes to restore objects from Cold Archive depends on the restoration mode you select. Different modes have different times and costs. Faster retrieval comes with higher unit pricing. Choose the mode that best suits your needs. The available modes are described below:
  • Quick Retrieval: Typically completed within 1 to 5 minutes. Select this option if you need to access the object immediately.
  • Standard Retrieval: Typically completed within 2 to 5 hours.
  • Batch Retrieval: Typically completed within 5 to 12 hours.
Reference object retrieval rate per Volcano Engine account: Average of 500 objects per second. The total daily retrieval capacity for these three modes ranges from 100 to 150 TiB.
Deep Cold Archive
The time it takes to restore objects from Deep Cold Archive depends on the restoration mode you select. Different modes have different times and costs. Faster retrieval comes with higher unit pricing. Choose the mode that best suits your needs. The available modes are described below:
  • Standard Retrieval: Typically completed within 12 hours.
  • Batch Retrieval: Typically completed within 48 hours.
Reference object retrieval rate per Volcano Engine account: Average of 100 objects per second. The total daily retrieval capacity for these two modes ranges from 10 to 15 TiB.

After restoration is complete
A temporary copy is generated for your access. This copy is stored in Standard Storage and incurs standard storage costs during the validity period.
Deleting an object before its copy expires
Deleting an object before its copy expires will also delete the copy. In this case, the storage cost for the copy will be calculated based on its actual storage duration rather than its validity period.

Restoring an object
  1. Log in to the TOS console.
  1. In the left navigation pane, click Buckets. In the Buckets list, click the bucket you want to manage.
  1. On the Objects page, click Restore in the Actions column of the object you want to restore.
  1. In the Restore Object dialog box, set the following parameters.
  •
    Parameter
    Description
    Storage type
By default, the temporary copy inherits the storage type of the object you want to restore.
    Current status
Not restored is displayed by default.
    Copy Validity Period
Set the validity period of the temporary copy. This period must be a positive integer ranging from 1 to 365, measured in days.
    warning
Copies will be billed at the standard storage rates during the validity period until they expire and are automatically deleted. For more information, see Storage of temporary copies.
    Restoration Mode
You only need to select a restoration mode when restoring objects from Cold Archive or Deep Cold Archive. Shorter restoration times result in higher unit prices. The modes are described below:
    • Cold Archive:
    • Quick Retrieval: Typically completed within 1 to 5 minutes.
    • Standard Retrieval: Typically completed within 2 to 5 hours.
    • Batch Retrieval: Typically completed within 5 to 12 hours.
    • Deep Cold Archive:
    • Standard Retrieval: Typically completed within 12 hours.
    • Batch Retrieval: Typically completed within 48 hours.

  1. Once you have finished configuring, click Restore.
tip
To check the status of an object that is being restored, click Restore in the Actions column of that object.
Restoring objects in batches
warning
Archive, Cold Archive, and Deep Cold Archive support different restoration modes. If you select objects from multiple storage types for batch restoration, only those in types that support the selected mode will be restored. An error will occur for objects in unsupported storage types.
  1. Log in to the TOS console.
  1. In the left navigation pane, click Buckets. In the Buckets list, click the bucket you want to manage.
  1. On the Objects page, check the box next to each object or folder you want to restore. Then, click Restore in the lower-left corner of the page.
  1. In the Batch restore files dialog box, set the following parameters.
  •
    Parameter
    Description
    Restoration Mode
Select a restoration mode when restoring objects. Shorter restoration times result in higher unit prices. Three modes are supported:
    • Quick Retrieval: Available for Archive and Cold Archive. The estimated restoration times by storage type in this mode are:
    • Archive: Typically within 1 minute.
    • Cold Archive: Typically within 1 to 5 minutes.
    • Standard Retrieval: Available for Archive, Cold Archive, and Deep Cold Archive. The estimated restoration times by storage type in this mode are:
    • Archive: Typically within 1 minute.
    • Cold Archive: Typically within 2 to 5 hours.
    • Deep Cold Archive: Typically within 12 hours.
    • Batch Retrieval: Available for Cold Archive and Deep Cold Archive. The estimated restoration times by storage type in this mode are:
    • Cold Archive: Typically within 5 to 12 hours.
    • Deep Cold Archive: Typically within 48 hours.
    Copy Validity Period
Set the Copy Validity Period. This period must be a positive integer ranging from 1 to 365, measured in days.
    warning
Copies will be billed at the standard storage rates during the validity period until they expire and are automatically deleted. For more information, see Storage of temporary copies.

  1. Once you have finished configuring, click Restore.
tip
To check the status of an object that is being restored, click Restore in the Actions column of that object.
Modifying the copy validity period
To extend the validity period of a copy, follow the steps below before the copy expires. Otherwise, you will have to pay for data retrieval again.
tip
Currently, you can only extend the validity period, not shorten it.
  1. Log in to the TOS console.
  1. In the left navigation pane, click Buckets. In the Buckets list, click the bucket you want to manage.
  1. On the Objects page, click Restore in the Actions column of the object you want to manage.
  1. In the Restore Object dialog box, specify the copy validity period and then click Restore.
tip
The copy validity period must be a positive integer ranging from 1 to 365, measured in days.
