To improve our services, Volcano Engine Torch Object Storage will upgrade the SetObjectMeta API on November 30, 2025. This upgrade will introduce a key parameter that will make managing object metadata more flexible.

Change Description
This upgrade offers additional options for updating object metadata via the SetObjectMeta API. The changes are explained below.
- Before the change: The SetObjectMeta API only supported a full overwrite when updating object metadata. When you use the SetObjectMeta API to update object metadata and only specify some of the metadata in your request, the specified metadata will be updated and any unmentioned metadata will be removed.
- After the change: The SetObjectMeta API now includes an optional parameter called x-tos-metadata-directive that allows you to specify how metadata updates should be handled. The fields are explained below.
- REPLACE: Full metadata overwrite. Any unspecified metadata will be deleted, and the metadata specified in the request will be updated.
- REPLACE_NEW: Incremental metadata update. Only the specified metadata will be updated, and the unspecified metadata will remain unchanged.
- If the x-tos-metadata-directive parameter is not specified in the SetObjectMeta call, the default behavior is an incremental metadata update. This means that only the specified metadata is updated, and the unspecified metadata remains unchanged.
Impacts
After the change, you can select the metadata update method using the x-tos-metadata-directive parameter. If you do not use this parameter, the SetObjectMeta API will default to an incremental metadata update. This update will only change the metadata specified in the request, leaving the rest of the metadata unchanged.
