Folder statistics
Using the TOS console, you can calculate the number of objects and the total data size within a folder. This topic explains what to consider and what steps to take.
Background information
TOS stores objects in a flat structure that does not incorporate the concept of folders. To help you better organize your objects, TOS displays objects ending with a forward slash (/) as folders by default. In TOS, a "folder" is essentially an object with a storage size of 0 KB.
Each object consists of a key, data, and metadata. The number of objects is determined by counting the forward slash (/) or a unique identifier (i.e., object key) possessed by each object. If an object ending with a forward slash (/) (e.g., data/aaa/bbb.txt) is uploaded as a single file and contains only one key, it is counted as one object.

Object quantity
  • The folder statistics feature supports up to one million objects. For more than one million objects, use Bucket inventory.
  • Symlinks are counted as separate objects and included in the total object count.
Total object size
In folder statistics, the object size is based on the actual size of the object, not the billable size.
Time required for counting
If there are a lot of objects in the folder, it may take some time to complete the count. Thank you for your patience.

Steps
  1. Log in to the TOS console.
  1. In the left navigation pane, click Buckets.
  1. In the top menu bar, select the project of the bucket you want to manage.
  1. On the Buckets page, click the name of the bucket.
  1. On the Objects page, select ... > Stat files info in the Actions column of the folder you want to check.
  1. In the Number/size of statistical files dialog box, configure the Statistical item. Multiple options are supported. The descriptions of the statistical items are as follows:
  •
    Statistical item
    Description
    Include/end objects
Specifies whether to count objects ending with a forward slash (/).
    • If you select this option, TOS counts both objects ending with / and those that do not.
    • If you do not select this option, TOS only counts objects that do not end with /.
    Includes historical versions
Specifies whether to count historical object versions without deletion marks.
    tip
The Includes historical versions statistical item only appears when the Show versions switch is turned on in the upper-right corner of the Objects page.
    Include delete tag
Specifies whether to count objects with deletion marks.
    tip
The Include delete tag statistical item can only be selected when the Show versions switch is turned on in the upper-right corner of the Objects page and the Includes historical versions option is selected.

  1. Click Start counting.
  • Then, the Statistical results section will show the total number and size of the objects in the folder.
