Creating multi-region access points
This topic explains how to create a multi-region access point.
Notes

Category
Description
Bucket type
Currently, multi-region access points only support FNS buckets. They do not support HNS buckets. For more information, see Bucket type.
Quantity
You can create up to 100 multi-region access points per Volcano Engine account.
Replication rule
  • When the access mode is set to multi-bucket replication, TOS automatically creates cross-region replication rules for the selected buckets. For example, if an access point is associated with buckets A and B, TOS will create rules to replicate bucket A to bucket B and bucket B to bucket A.
  • Cross-region replication rules created for multi-region access points override any existing replication rules in the buckets.
tip
To ensure proper functioning, do not modify or delete cross-region replication rules for multi-region access points. Doing so may cause malfunctions.
Transfer acceleration
In order to access resources across regions between the Chinese mainland and other locations, you must enable the transfer acceleration feature when creating a multi-region access point. Otherwise, your attempts to access these resources will be unsuccessful.
Constraints
  • After creating a multi-region access point, you cannot add or remove buckets from it. To change the buckets, you must delete the multi-region access point and create a new one.
  • You cannot delete a bucket that is part of a multi-region access point. To delete a bucket attached to a multi-region access point, first delete the access point.

Steps
  1. Log in to the TOS console.
  1. In the left navigation pane, select Access point > Multi-Region Access Points.
  1. Click Create a Multi-Region Access Point.
  1. On the Create a Multi-Region Access Point page, configure the following parameters.
  •
    Parameter

    Description
    Name

Enter a name for the multi-region access point. After you create the access point, you cannot change its name. The access point names must:
    • Be globally unique.
    • Contain only lowercase letters, numbers, or hyphens (-).
    • Be between 3 and 50 characters long.
    • Start and end with a number or letter.
    Bucket
    Mode
Select the access mode for the multi-region access point. Options include:
    • Single bucket access: Connects the multi-region access point to one bucket. This option is ideal when data is stored in a single bucket within one region, and compute nodes occasionally access the data from other regions with low latency sensitivity.
    • Multi bucket replication: Connects the multi-region access point to multiple buckets. This option is ideal when data is distributed across multiple regions, and compute nodes frequently access the data, requiring low latency and cost efficiency. For more information, see Access modes.

    Bucket
Select the buckets that will be attached to the multi-region access point. Only one bucket can be selected for each region. Please note that:
    • Currently, only FNS buckets are supported. HNS buckets are not supported. For more information, see Bucket type.
    • Currently, buckets can only be selected from the current account. Selecting buckets from another account is not an option.
    warning
In multi-bucket replication mode, versioning must be enabled or disabled for all associated buckets. It cannot be suspended.
    Replication rule
    tip
The Replication rule option only appears when the Mode of a multi-region access point is Multi bucket replication.
    Destination storage type
Select the storage type for the replica:
    • Inherit target bucket: The replica's storage type will match the destination bucket's default storage type.
    • Inherit source object: The storage type of the replica will be consistent with that of the source object.

    Scope
Specify the scope of the data that will be replicated:
    • Entire bucket: Copy all objects in the bucket to the destination bucket.
    • Specify prefix: Copy all objects that match the specified prefix to the destination bucket. Select Specify prefix and click Add row to enter a prefix. Only objects with the specified prefix will then be replicated. The restrictions are as follows:
    • If this field is left empty, all objects in the bucket will be replicated.
    • Up to ten prefixes can be added.
    • Length must be between 1 and 1,024 characters.
    Back-to-Origin rule
    tip
The Back-to-Origin rule option only appears when the Mode of a multi-region access point is Multi bucket replication.
    Policy Type
Configure back-to-origin rules for the multi-region access point. For more information, see Creating back-to-origin rules for multi-region access points.

  1. Once you have finished configuring, click Select.
  1. (Optional) If you set Mode to Multi bucket replication and enable Create replication rules, you must check the box that says I confirm conflicting rules continue to be submitted in the Conflicting Cross-Region Replication rule detected dialog box. Then, click OK.
