Sharing objects
After uploading files or folders to TOS, you can share them with other users via a URL. This topic explains how to do that.
Sharing methods
TOS provides multiple ways to share objects:

Tool
Sharing mechanism
Description
Console
URLs obtained from the details panel
These URLs apply to individual files and are valid for one hour. Learn more in Viewing object details.

URLs generated via object sharing
These URLs apply to both files and folders, and you can configure their validity period from one minute to 12 hours.
SDK
Pre-signed URLs
These URLs apply to files, and you can configure their validity period from one minute to seven days. Learn more in the SDK documentation.
TOS Browser
URLs
These URLs apply to both files and folders, and you can configure their validity period from one minute to 12 hours. Learn more in Basic object operations.
tosutil
Authorization codes
  • These codes apply to both files and folders. You can configure their validity period from one minute to seven days. You can use these codes, in particular, to share objects with a specified prefix.
  • If you use temporary access credentials to configure tosutil, the authorization code's validity period must match the credentials' expiration time. Learn more in Create an authorization code (share-crt).

Notes
The validity period of a URL cannot be changed after it is generated. To extend access, generate a new URL before the current one expires.
Steps
  1. Log in to the TOS console.
  1. In the left navigation pane, click Buckets. In the Buckets list, click the bucket you want to manage.
  1. On the Objects page, follow the instructions below to share your object.
  • To share a folder, click Share in the Actions column of the folder.
  • To share a file, click ··· > Share in the Actions column of the file.
  1. Set the following parameters in the box that appears:
  •
    Parameter
    Description
    Filename
The name of the object to be shared. This field is automatically generated and cannot be modified.
    URL Validity Period
Set the expiration time for the URL within a configurable range of one minute to 12 hours.
During this time, any user can access or download the object via this URL.

  1. Once you have finished configuring, click Create Sharing.
  • Then, TOS will generate a URL that you can use to share the object with other users.
