Applying for license mobility (Windows)

This topic describes how to apply for Microsoft product license mobility based on Software Assurance.

Applicable scenario

Volcano Engine (Beijing Volcano Engine Technology Co., Ltd.), as a Microsoft Authorized Mobility Partner, accepts Microsoft software product licenses covered by valid Software Assurance contracts.

Therefore, if you already own the Windows operating system and a software license and want to continue using them on a Volcano Engine ECS instance, you can submit a Software Assurance License Mobility application to Microsoft. Once the application is approved, you can use Bring Your Own License (BYOL) on Volcano Engine without purchasing additional licenses.

Usage notes

Make sure that your license meets the following requirements:

Software Assurance is purchased for your Microsoft license. For more information, see Software Assurance.

The product you want to deploy must support the License Mobility agreement. Additionally, the license cannot be used to activate Windows client operating systems or desktop application products such as Microsoft Windows Server operating systems and Microsoft Office. For more information, see Licensing Use Rights.

Eligible volume licensing programs include Enterprise Agreements with Software Assurance, Enterprise Subscription Agreements, Microsoft Open Value Agreements, and other Microsoft volume licensing programs such as Microsoft Open License or Select Plus.

Procedure

Deploy Microsoft products that comply with Software Assurance License Mobility on Volcano Engine.

Within 10 days after deployment, submit a Software Assurance License Mobility application to Microsoft. For more information, see How to use License Mobility.

Download the form titled Microsoft License Mobility through SA License Verification Form (Asia, PRC).

In the application form, locate the section labeled Authorized Mobility Partner information.

Select Authorized Mobility Partner.

Fill in the following information:

Submit the completed application form to the email address aplquest@microsoft.com via email.

Wait for the review result of Microsoft.

Subsequent operations

After your Software Assurance License Mobility application is approved, you can perform the following operations based on your needs:

Within the same region and same availability zone: You can allocate the license to different ECS instances. For more information, see Regions and availability zones.

Within the same region but different availability zones: You can also allocate the license to different ECS instances, but the time interval between two allocations must be no less than 90 days.
