Overview
Snapshots are point-in-time backups of EBS volumes. You can use them to restore the data if it is lost or if a failure occurs.
Use cases
Snapshots are particularly useful in the following scenarios:
  • Routine backup: You can create snapshots of your volume on a regular basis for data backup. If your data is corrupted or lost due to mistakes, hacking, or viruses, snapshots can help you recover it.
  • Improving fault tolerance: You can create a snapshot before performing important maintenance operations, such as changing the operating system, migrating business data, or upgrading application software, to improve fault tolerance.
Billing notes
Snapshots are billed on a pay-as-you-go basis depending on your storage usage and how long you keep them. For more information, see Snapshot billing.

Considerations
Billing
The snapshot feature will not work properly if your account is overdue. Snapshots will be automatically deleted if your account remains overdue for more than 15 days. Please recharge promptly to avoid affecting your business.
Volume specifications
Only ESSD and TSSD volumes offer the snapshot feature.
Quantity
You can create up to 256 manual snapshots and 1,024 automatic snapshots for each volume.
  • Manual snapshots: If you reach the manual snapshot limit, attempting to take another one will result in an error.
  • Automatic snapshots: If you reach the limit for automatic snapshots, the system will delete the oldest one.
