Overview of Elastic Block Storage
Volcano Engine Elastic Block Storage (EBS) provides fast, reliable, high-performance, and scalable block storage. It can act as an additional hard drive for cloud servers and elastic container services.
Volume types
EBS offers several volume types that fall into two main categories based on usage: system volumes and data volumes.
Benefits of EBS
- Unmatched performance: EBS volumes are built on an all-flash storage architecture that delivers high IOPS, high throughput, and sub-millisecond read/write latency. This architecture meets the storage performance requirements of core workloads, such as databases, middleware, and big data processing.
- Elastic scalability: Both capacity and performance can be adjusted on demand. You can extend a volume online and configure additional IOPS and throughput. Short-term load spikes can be handled by using burst performance, without having to reserve resources for peak loads over the long term.
- High stability and reliability: A multi-replica redundancy mechanism ensures 99.9999999% data reliability. When combined with snapshots and automated snapshot policies, EBS volumes effectively mitigate the risks of hardware failure and accidental operations.
- Diverse offerings: EBS offers ESSD, TSSD, and elastic remote volumes for ephemeral data. These options cover a wide range of workloads, including databases and big data processing. Select the right type based on your performance, reliability, and cost requirements.
- Native integration: EBS is deeply integrated with ECS and Volcengine Kubernetes Engine. Dynamic volume provisioning delivers persistent storage for containerized applications. This reduces the need for manual operations, such as creating and attaching resources, thereby simplifying application deployment and storage management.
