Instructions on renewal and unsubscription
This topic describes how to renew and unsubscribe Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances.
Instructions on renewal
For subscription-based instances, 7 days, 3 days, and 1 day before and on the expiration date, the platform sends notifications by SMS, email, or internal message based on the notification method you specify to remind you that the resources are about to expire. To ensure uninterrupted services, please renew your subscription-based instances timely after you receive the notification. tip
- When you renew a subscription-based instance, the associated image and mounted subscription-based volumes are renewed accordingly. You can select whether to renew the associated subscription-based Elastic IP (EIP).
- On the Instances page of the ECS console, you can view the renewal method (manual renewal or auto renewal) in the "Renewal method" column.
Manual renewal
- In the top menu bar, select the region and project of the target instance.
- In the left-side navigation pane, select "Instances & Images > Instances".
- On the Instances page, complete renewal by referring to the following methods.
- Single renewal: Click "··· > Cost > Renew" on the right side of the target instance.
- Batch renewal: On the Instances page, select one or more subscription-based instances to be renewed and click the "Renew" button at the bottom.
You can select up to 100 subscription-based instances at a time.
- You will be redirected to the renewal management page. Review and confirm the instance information. When you renew an ECS instance, specify whether to renew the associated subscription-based EIP.
- Select a renewal cycle, and check the "I have read the renewal instructions and agree to do the above", and click "Pay".
- Click "Next step" to submit the payment information. Then, click "Pay" to complete the payment.
If you have available coupons, select them for payment deduction.
Automatic renewal
You can select the "Enable automatic renewal" option when subscribing to a subscription-based instance or enable automatic renewal before the instance expires. For detailed steps, refer to Automatic renewal. Once automatic renewal is enabled, the system automatically deducts the renewal fee from your account balance before the instance expires. If you have coupons in your account, they will be prioritized for the renewal.
tip
- For any instance with automatic renewal enabled, you can also manually renew it at any time. Manual renewal does not affect automatic renewal. The system will deduct fees 7 days before the updated expiration date.
- For expired instances, you can not enable or modify automatic renewal.
Instructions on unsubscription
If you no longer require a subscription-based instance, you can unsubscribe it to reduce costs.
tip
After the unsubscription, the platform will notify you via SMS/email/internal message based on the reminder method you specify, to inform you whether the unsubscription was successful. Preparations
Before unsubscription, make sure that the data you need is not stored in the subscription-based instance you are about to unsubscribe, or that the data you need has been backed up or migrated. Usage notes
- After you unsubscribe a subscription-based instance, you can manually delete the instance during the retention period. For more information, refer to Deleting instance.
- To avoid data loss due to accidental unsubscription, the related resources will be retained for a certain period. During the retention period, the resources awaiting release will not incur charges. See the following detailed rules:
- Unsubscribed subscription-based instances can not be restored directly. Once the retention period expires, for example, if you unsubscribe a Subscription-based instance and do not renew it within 15 days after the unsubscription, the Subscription-based volume will be released. After that, the data is irrecoverable and you cannot restore the instance through renewal. If you want to continue using ECS, we recommend you take the following measures:
- Create a new instance: Purchase a new ECS instance and select appropriate configuration based on your business requirements. For more information, refer to how to purchase instance.
- If the data volumes of the original instance are set as not being deleted with the instance and being retained after unsubscription, you can mount the data volumes on the new instance for use.
Unsubscription type
danger
The platform reserves the right to reject unsubscription requests that appear to be suspicious or malicious.
7-day unconditional unsubscription restrictions
- Each account can enjoy 7-day unconditional full unsubscription for one ECS instance per calendar year in total. Once the annual 7-day unconditional unsubscription quota is used up, only non-7-day unconditional unsubscription is available.
- Reserved Instances (RI) do not support 7-day unconditional unsubscription.
- For Subscription instances using SUSE or Red Hat images, the computing resources support 7-day unconditional unsubscription, while SUSE and Red Hat images only support non-7-day unconditional unsubscription.
- EIPs support 7-day unconditional unsubscription and can be unsubscribed along with the instances.
- In the top menu bar, select the region and project of the target instance.
- In the left-side navigation pane, select "Instances & Images > Instances".
- On the Instances page, complete unsubscription by referring to the following methods.
- Single unsubscription: On the right side of the target instance, hover on the ellipsis icon (···) and select "Cost > Unsubscribe".
- Batch unsubscription: Select one or more subscription-based instances, select "··· > Unsubscribe" at the bottom of the page.
Only instances that do not support 7-day unconditional unsubscription support batch operations. Up to 100 Subscription instances can be selected at a time.
- You are redirected to the unsubscription management page. Confirm the information of the instances, volumes, images, and other relevant resources. When you unsubscribe an ECS instance, specify whether to unsubscribe the subscription-based EIP associated with it.
- Select "I have read the unsubscription notice and agreed on the operations above", and click the "Confirm unsubscription" button. Then, check the unsubscription details (unsubscribed resources and amount).
- Click "Confirm" to complete the procedure.
