Use cases

You can attach an empty volume to your instance.
After creating a data volume, you must partition and format it with a file system before you can use it.
You can restore a volume to its initial state.
You can configure additional performance for an ESSD FlexPL data volume. This increases the volume's performance without increasing its capacity.
You can convert an ESSD PL0 volume to an ESSD FlexPL volume.
You can detach a volume from your instance if you no longer need it.
You can delete a volume if you no longer need it to store data.
You can edit the name and description of your volume and configure settings, such as whether a data volume is deleted when the instance is deleted.
You can get the serial number of a device on a Linux or Windows instance.
You can view the mapping between volume IDs and device names. This makes it easier to check basic information, such as capacity, in real time when extending a volume.
