Switching a volume from subscription to pay-as-you-go
EBS volumes support two billing methods: pay-as-you-go and subscription. You can change the billing method based on your business needs. This topic explains how to change the billing method of a data volume from subscription to pay-as-you-go.
tip
This topic only covers the prerequisites and steps for switching a subscription-based data volume to a pay-as-you-go model. The billing method for subscription system volumes cannot be changed independently. It must be changed along with the ECS instances to which the volumes are attached. For more information, see Changing billing method from Subscription to Pay-as-you-go. Prerequisites
Make sure that the data volume meets the following conditions:
- The volume must be Attached and the instance to which it is attached must be Running.
- The instance must not have expired.
- Your Volcano Engine account must have a cash balance and coupon value totaling at least 100 CNY. If your balance is insufficient, please top it up first.
Notes
- You can change billing methods in batches. Each batch can include up to 320 volumes.
- Once a volume is switched from a subscription to a pay-as-you-go model, the platform will deduct the cost of the used portion and refund the remaining prepaid amount to your Volcano Engine account. This refund excludes the portion covered by coupons. Used coupons are not refundable.
- For more information on the refund rules for switching a volume from subscription to pay-as-you-go, see Unsubscription.
- After a volume is switched from a subscription to a pay-as-you-go model, the "Delete with instance" attribute does not change.
tip
- If you created your volume with an ECS instance under the subscription billing method, and then switched to pay-as-you-go, your volume will not be deleted when you delete the instance.
- If you created your volume on a subscription basis, attached it to an ECS instance, and then switched to pay-as-you-go, your volume will be deleted when you delete the instance.
Steps
- In the top menu bar, select the project and region where the volume resides.
- In the left navigation pane, select "Storage > Volumes".
- On the "Volumes" page, perform the following steps as needed:
- To switch a single volume, locate the subscription volume you want to manage, and click "··· > Switch to Pay-as-you-go" in the "Actions" column.
- To switch multiple volumes in a batch, select the subscription volumes you want to manage, and click "... > Switch to Pay-as-you-go" at the bottom of the page.
tip
- You can switch up to 320 volumes at a time.
- If you select volumes with mixed billing types, the batch operation will not succeed.
- After verifying the volume information, check the box that says "I have read and agree to Elastic Compute Service Terms of Service". Then, click "Submit".
tip
- Make sure that your account's cash balance and coupon value total at least CNY 100. Otherwise, changing the billing method will not work.
- When switching multiple volumes in a batch, if you want to cancel switching for a specific volume, click "Remove > OK" next to that volume on the information confirmation page.
- You cannot remove all volumes on the information confirmation page.
- On the "Confirm order information" page, complete payment and switch the billing method.
- To verify that the change was successful, do the following:
- Change successful: A "Change config" order has been generated in "Order management", and the order status is Pending refund. The prepaid amount for the unused period will be refunded.
- Change failed: A "Change config" order has been generated in "Order management", and the order status is Refund failed.
